Faith, Hope, and Love in Vietnam
Expanded Ministry through Volunteer Teachers

FHLGM reached a new milestone in February. While I was serving in Myanmar, Dr. Bradley Holt joined our volunteer corps of adjunct faculty members to offer biblical teaching and ministry to pastors in Vietnam.

Brad, a retired college professor at Augsburg, earned his PhD in New Testament from Yale University. He also has published an excellent book on the history of Christian spirituality, Thirsty for God , which has just been released in its third edition.

Dr. Bradley Holt teaching Pastors in Vietnam

Dr. Holt taught pastors of house churches for three days in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Some had come 100, 200, or even 300 km (180 miles) for this training. He began by teaching on the expansion of Christianity over time, explaining to surprised (and pleased) pastors that Christianity is not European, and neither was Jesus.

The bulk of the course focused on Jesus through the different eyes of the four Gospel writers. The purpose of this course, according to Dr. Holt, was "to increase the participants' knowledge of Jesus and of the Bible, so that all may be able to minister more effectively in the power of the Holy Spirit."

When the course was finished, the leaders were enthusiastic about all they learned and experienced. Pastor Binh from the countryside said: "Although I live far from the city and had to travel a long way to participate in this training conference with Dr. Brad, I am so blessed! The training helped me prepare my sermons and explain the Bible better."

Pastor Phuc, the event organizer on behalf of the Baptist Churches in Vietnam, wrote: " Praise God we had very good training and visiting with Dr. Brad through your help.  May God bless you, your family, and FHL Global Ministries!"

Meanwhile in Myanmar, my weekly responsibilities include four classes, a spiritual direction group, preaching occasionally at New Life Christian Fellowship (see below for link to my sermons), coaching leaders, and counseling students. My Myanmar assistant, HtetPaing YeMaung, and I are also busily evaluating the reams of material we gathered when conducting interviews with 115 pastors last year on their spiritual lives.

My assistant, Sayama Kay Thi, instructs NT Theology students

This month, I am also preparing for 11 days of teaching, preaching, and ministry in Falam and Hakha, in the Chin Hills (March 9-19). Afterward, I will return to the MIT campus in Yangon to teach a three day intensive module for a dozen Doctor of Ministries students. On March 24, I'll join Jill in France for Holy Week, then travel back to Minnesota for two weeks (April 3-16), before turning around to do more teaching in France and Myanmar in April-May.

Thank you for your continued interest, support, and prayers for FHLGM's expanding ministries. You are an important part of the success and fruitfulness of all we doing globally to equip Christian leaders to serve Christ more effectively.

Serving Christ with you,

Rev. Timothy C. Geoffrion, Ph.D., D.D.
President and Teaching Minister

The interview aired on January 8th, 2018. Bill Campbell and Tim discuss what it means for us to listen to what God is saying and how to act on it.
