Tradition
Among the things that make the St. John's community stand out are our cherished traditions. Each student
—whether they attend St. John's for only a year in Early Childhood, or for every year of Lower School
—shares in the same annual traditions as those children who came before, and those children who come after. These connections unite us as a school and as a community. At Christmastime, every St. John's student takes part in some of our holiday traditions. For the past 29 years, our school has collected gifts for the Collington's Square Community; teaching our students that caring for others is the greatest gift. From their classrooms, our students "ride the Polar Express" or "take planes" to visit faraway places such as Russia, Mexico, and the Netherlands. They hear stories read by Mrs. Grosso as they sit near the fireplace, eating hand-made, Mortimer mouse treats; make hand-print ornaments for Mom and Dad; and have Christmas Family Chapel in the Historic Church with Chaplain Jenni.
One of our longest-standing holiday traditions is the Early Childhood trip to Fairhaven. Since 1965, our Early Childhood students have traveled to sing our "Christmas Songs of the Season" program to the adult residents there. Our first director, Betty Ford, made the little red capes that the children have worn since the very first year, and we have said the prayer “What Can I Give Him?” in every year's program. The Fairhaven trip is just one of the ways in which St. John's renews its connection to the greater community.
We extend
special thanks to Nancy Stavely, Organist and Music Director of St. John's Episcopal Church, who played the organ, and Mrs. Khandjian, who played piano at Family Chapel; all the EC teachers and assistants for their musical teachings; to Ms. Sclar, Mrs. Richardson, and all the parent volunteers for a successful Book Fair; and most importantly, to
all of you who make up our loving community, who let us keep all of these traditions going, year after year.
We hope that everyone has a great "last day" tomorrow, and the very best Christmas Break. We'll miss you all, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Scrips Program. You order gift cards, (physical or e-cards), pay for them, then use them. The donation percentage from each card is then sent to the school’s business office for our account.
