 Unpack & Unwind

Whether you're planning a trip for two or for the whole group, there are lots of lodging options in the area including places tucked in the woods and others with a slopeside view.

Burke Cabin offers a little of both.  Although it's secluded, it's still just a quick drive to Burke Mountain and Kingdom Trails Nordic Center.  It's even better if you're snowmobiling since there is direct VAST trail access from the property.  A cabin with 4 bedrooms and apartment with 2 bedrooms are offered and located on 18 private acres.  A Condo at Burke Mountain is also available for rentals and sleeps four people.

Snowed Inn the NEK Vermont offers 4 spacious guestrooms and a private location in between Burke and Lake Willoughby.  Whether you want to hit the slopes, enjoy a fat bike ride, ice fish, snowmobile, or head out on a winter backcountry trek, it's just a quick drive. Or leave the car and travel via snowmobile on the nearby trails.

For a ski-in, ski-out stay, check out Sno Bear Lodging, offering 1 - 4 bedroom slopeside condos.  The newly renovated units feature Vermont Castings gas fireplaces, full kitchens with stainless steel appliances, WiFi, storage for your gear, and amazing views of Willoughby Gap.

New Adventures & Culinary Favorites!

It's a New Year and why not time for a New Adventure?  Say, ice climbing?  Just about 10 minutes from Burke there happens to be a well-known ice climbing destination...From Climbing.com...  "Tucked in the corner of the Northeast Kingdom, the upper right corner of the state, Lake Willoughby appears as if a witch scratched her nail across the map, carving a five-mile-long lake with sheer cliffs along its eastern side. The splintered rock presents little for summertime climbers, but winter temperatures provide solid ice on top of otherwise friable rock. It becomes what world-traveling ice climber and Canadian Rockies guidebook author Joe Josephson has called "the single greatest ice climbing cliff on Earth."  READ MORE...

Right in Burke, there happens to be Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides which offers a one day Introduction to Ice Climbing course which takes place on the frozen waterfalls around the lake.  Your instructor will keep you at a safe height from the ground and you'll learn the techniques and skills needed to climb safely while enjoying the view.

We are lucky to have many volunteers who maintain trails and wooded areas for all to enjoy in one way or another.  The folks of the Northeast Kingdom Backcountry Coalition donate their time to keep backcountry ski trails available for everyone to enjoy.  If you've never tried it before, why not head into the woods and give it a try this year.  Check them out on facebook for skiing conditions and updates.

Courage to try something new deserves a special dinner and we are fortunate to have some great restaurants in the area that serve up a fun atmosphere along with dinner.  The Burke Publick House is often hopping with live music or popular Brush n' Brew nights with a local artist helping you create your own masterpiece.  The food is also excellent with menu choices including Sugar Shack Poutine, Bangers & Mash, and Filet Mignon.  Crafty Cocktails with crafty names such as the Dilly Bean Martini and The Scarlet Thorn are also served.

What's the perfect way to start the day or reward yourself after a morning of trying something new?  Sunday Brunch!  New for 2018, the Foggy Goggle Osteria is now serving Sunday Brunch with lots of great menu choices including Sourdough French Toast, Eggs Benedict, and, of course, Mimosas!

And if you end up a little sore after any of your winter adventures on the trails or on the cliffs, Trail2Wellness offers massage services including Hot Stone Massage and even Hot and Cold Hydrotherapy, both of which can help with sore muscles.
