Business Spotlight: Opportunity Knocks

Opportunity Knocks has been a client of OzSBI since 2015 and we are excited about their new venture in the coffee business.

"Once you enter Opportunity Knocks, the aroma of fresh brewed coffee leads you to the back where Regina Collins has transformed the area into a full service coffee shop. The charming café has been decorated with rustic doors (doors of destiny) on all the walls, with stories belonging to each door, repurposed lamps light, cozy corners and handmade décor - which is also for sale - graces the walls." sited:  Sue Neitzel, Quill Contributor

"Opportunity Knocks coffee shop features "coffee with a purpose" because not just any coffee will do here. Regina has researched coffees from all over and decided on Grounds for Change, a organic coffee company that gives back. Each purchase supports global fair trade economics, organic farming and forest conservation to name a few, while each blend supports a cause of it's own." sited: Sue Neitzel, Quill Contributor

Divert your Tax Dollars to OzSBI

OzSBI has been awarded $90,000 in 50% tax credits by the Small Business Incubator Tax Credit program. Any individual or business with a Missouri tax liability is eligible to receive the 2017 tax credits by making a donation to OzSBI.  Funds raised through tax credits  enables OzSBI to offer business workshops and professional development seminars, expand its Manufacturing Outreach program, host Startup Weekends and cultivate a tech business hub.

This year donors get an extra bang for their buck by combining a donation for tax credits with a naming opportunity. There are  spaces   available for naming for donations of $5,000 up to $12,500.  "Tax credits enable donors to make a contribution to OzSBI ast a significantly reduced out-of-pokect cost, while investing in entrepreneurs who are going our economy," shared Heather Fisher.

Grant to Strengthen Rural Manufacturing

OzSBI has received a $29,500.00 Rural Business Development Grant grant from the USDA to strengthen small rural manufacturers in Howell, Oregon, Shannon, Texas, Wright, Douglas and Ozark counties. The USDA grant will be matched with local funds provided by the Industrial Development Corporation of West Plains (IDC) for $15,750.00.

Grant funds will be used to undertake a feasibilty study for the establishment of an Industrial Incubator. This unique incuabtor model combines industrial space with moveable walls, loading docks, centralized offices, etc. with business support, financing and technical assistance.  Northwest Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NWRPC) has pioneered this innovative approach to manufacturing development. It now operates 11 facilities totaling 180,000 sq. ft of space located in 6 communities with populations of 4,500 or less. Over the last 14 years the NWRPC has assisted 44 businesses, created 403 jobs with salaries 30% above the regional average, and generated an annual revenue of $59.5 million. OzSBI will be working with Rick Roeser of Northwest Regional Planning Commision to conduct a feasilibty study to determine if this concept will work in our region.

Grant funds will also be used to catalogue and dissemination manufacturers' capabilities statements with the goal to promote manufacturers working cooperatively and to attract new industries that can use the existing skills and capabilities of local manufacturers. A dditional grants funds will be used to provide leadership and management training to give rural industries the managerial expertise they need to increase productivity and profitability; to purchase a financial analysis software to assist companies in understanding their finances and developing long-term financial plans; and to host quarterly manufacturing roundtables to share resources and build the local manufacturing network. The learn more about these program, please contact OzSBI at 417-256-9724.
