Backhausdance Will Tour Europe

Backhausdance, the 15 year old Orange County based contemporary dance company, will tour Italy and Poland in April--its first European tour.  The company is headed by choreographer and educator Jenny Backhaus.
Shakespeare Orange County Forced to Cancel 2018 Season Due to City of Garden Grove Construction Delays

Shakespeare Orange County (SOC) has just learned from the City of Garden Grove that it will not have access to its Festival Amphitheatre performance facility in time for this summer's season due to construction delays on improvements to the city-owned facility, and that it will also lose access to a portion of the facility used for its major fundraising event during the City's popular Strawberry Festival.  This has forced it to scrub its entire season.  SOC does intend to offer off-site educational activities.  Read the announcement here.
ArtsOC Encourages OC Arts Community to Support the California Arts Advocates

California Arts Advocates (CAA) is currently conducting a statewide membership campaign to support its efforts to secure continued increases in state arts funding.  ArtsOC President & CEO Rick Stein, a former president of CAA, is encouraging Orange County arts organizations and arts-concerned citizens to join the organization.  "After 12 years of near-zero funding in our state, the aggressive efforts of CAA over the last five years has resulted in significant increases in arts funding.  Many OC arts organizations have benefited as a result, and CAA is continuing to push for a major increase in the coming budget year.  Your help is needed to keep up this momentum."  Details here.
Important Updates to City of Santa Ana "Investing in the Arts" Grants Program Guidelines & Application
The City of Santa Ana has made some changes to its recently announced grants program and application.  If you intend to apply, please check the website for the updated version of the guidelines and application here.  Also, it is mandatory for applicants to attend the information session on March 28 at 6:00 pm in the Ross Annex of City Hall, 1st Floor, Conference Room 1600 if you did not attend the earlier one.  Applications are due May 3.

IN MEMORIAM

JAMES LUNA, the groundbreaking performance artist who was born in Fountain Valley, attended University of California, Irvine, and settled on the La Jolla Indian Reservation, has died at the age of 68.  He was honored with ArtsOC's Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award at the 2017 Orange County Arts Awards. 

JUDITH GOFFIN, a pioneer in the field of public relations in Orange County, CA, has died at age 81.  Judy was an ardent supporter of the arts and arts education, an author, lecturer, photographer, rosarian and owner of a public relation company.  More here.
Grants Available for Projects Related to the WWII Internment of Japanese-Americans

The California Civil Liberties Public Education Program, a program of the California State Library, is a state-funded grant project to sponsor public educational activities and development of educational materials to ensure that the events surrounding the exclusion, forced removal, and internment of civilians and permanent resident aliens of Japanese ancestry will be remembered so that the causes and circumstance of this and similar events may be illuminated and understood.
