National Art Winners
BCS artists were honored at the Birmingham Country Club by the General Sumter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Each year the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsor a national art competition. Students are given a specific theme and must communicate the theme through an original art piece.

Students enter the competition at the local level and advance in the competition by winning in Local, State, and District competitions, ending at the National level.

Artwork Bound for China
I n celebration of the 500th year of the Reformation, BCS Art 2 and 3 students created an Art piece that will be presented on March 24 at the China Choral Festival at Tianjin International School.

The art piece is inspired by the “Solas” of the Reformation. The impressionistic piece depicts 5 angelic messengers standing in front of a stain glass window inspired by the window of St. Augustine’s Church in Erfurt, Germany. Each messenger holds a scripture parchment. The parchments are adorned with a medallion unscripted with each of the five “Solas”.

Sola gratia ("by grace alone")
Solus Christus ("Christ alone")
Sola fide ("by faith alone")
Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone")
Sola scriptura ("by Scripture alone")

The artwork will travel to Chengdu International School, International School of Qingdao, Wuhan Yangtze International School, International School of Wuxi, and
Yantai Huasheng International School and will make its home at the Tianjin International School Art Center.

Our prayer throughout the designing, studying, and painting of this piece; has been that God would use our art to plant seeds of curiosity in those who view it. And that through their curiosity they might investigate the meaning of the “Solas” and discover the truth of the Gospel.
