  • SageView Consulting has partnered with NJHSA to provide executive search and HR resources to member agencies. They will be at the Inaugural Conference this April. Learn more here. 
     
  • The Network is establishing a Lay Leadership Committee. Participants should be energetic and have insight regarding how The Network can meet the needs of lay leadership through outreach, programming, and technology. The goals for this Committee are to:
    • facilitate lay leadership involvement in The Network's mission,
    • to help identify the needs of lay leadership as they look to advance their volunteer efforts in their communities,
    • and to develop ideas for lay leadership resources housed in a password protected section on the Network's website, to increase communication with others.

  • The Network was contacted by a consultant who is working with a private foundation that has funds to distribute to agencies that specifically serve the elderly Balkan Sephardic Jews (Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia; originally from the Ottoman empire). They have asked that we help them identify communities throughout the United States that may have a population of Balkan Sephardic Jews (no matter how small) and let them know: 
  • 1. The name of the community,
  • 2. The number of elderly Balkan Sephardic Jews, 
  • 3. The type of services they require, 
  • 4. The approximate annual cost of those services (if known) and 
  • 5. The agencies delivering the services.

  • KAVOD's (Ensuring Dignity for Holocaust Survivors) mission is to provide aid to Holocaust Survivors, living at or below the poverty line in the United States, who have emergency day to day needs for food, medicine and/or household goods. KAVOD is designed to make sure these men and women live out their remaining years with dignity and respect by issuing aid in the form of gift cards to grocery stores and pharmacies near where they live. Nearly 20 NJHSA member agencies partner with KAVOD. Learn how your agency can connect with KAVOD in their March 19th webinar .
  • Retiring Executives - At the Inaugural Conference in Chicago this April, the Network plans to recognize those executives who are retiring in 2018 - or in the first quarter of 2019. If this includes you or your executive, please do let us know ! The Network is looking forward to celebrating YOU!

  • Pushing the Boundaries:  Disability, Inclusion and Jewish Community | April 15-17, 2018 | Toronto, ON | Learn more and register here by Monday, March 5th.
    The first national Canadian conference of its kind designed for people with disabilities and their family members, self advocates, policy makers, professionals and volunteers who are dedicated to creating inclusive Jewish communities. 
     
  • FOLLOW UP - Our Jewish Family: A Conference on Diversity and Inclusion was a  collaborative effort of Jewish Child and Family Service of Winnipeg, the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, and the Rose and Max Rady JCC. In 2 days, 8 sessions were attended by more than 120 conference attendees. Keynote speaker, Rabbi Micah Buck-Yael, Coordinator of Community Chaplaincy with the Jewish Family & Children's Service of St. Louis, spoke about the most current clinical best practices for clients identifying in the LGTBQ2S community and the community approach to diversity and inclusive language with a Jewish lens. Jewish Federations of Canada CEO, Linda Kislowicz, moderated sessions on interfaith families which culminated into a planning session with Jewish community professionals and lay leadership. The final session concluded with the establishment of a Standing Committee on Inclusion and three task forces to address: Inclusive Communications, Inclusive Education/Training, and Inclusive Infrastructure. There was also a committee struck to draft community-wide vision and value statements, and guiding principles.  It is with great pride, excitement and enthusiasm that JCFS Winnipeg was the catalyst for engaging the community on this important journey.

    Highlights of some important sector prizes and surveys that have approaching deadlines:
    • State of Grantseeking Survey - This survey is the 16th semi-annual informal survey of nonprofits conducted by GrantStation to reveal the current state of grantseeking in the US. Survey closes: March 31.
    • Survey of Organizations that Are Interested In or Serve Intergenerational Clients - This survey is being conducted jointly by Generations United and Ohio State with funding from The Eisner Foundation with a goal of learning more about programs, best practices, interests, and more as they relate to intergenerational programming.
    • John W. Gardner Leadership Award - Nominate an outstanding American who exemplifies the leadership and the ideals of John W. Gardner (1912-2002), American statesman and founding chair of Independent Sector. Deadline to nominate: April 2.
    • AARP Purpose Prize - Nominate an extraordinary individual who uses their life experience to make a better future for all. Deadline to nominate: April 6.
    Drucker Prize - Apply for the Drucker Prize, which celebrates nonprofit innovation by recognizing America's most innovative nonprofit with an unrestricted $100,000 cash award. Deadline to apply: April 30.
