Chief's Corner

Welcome to the December edition of  The Dispatch, the Rancho Cordova Police Department's e-newsletter. The Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) has enjoyed celebrating the holiday season with you by participating in parades, toy drives, and other events.

One thing that stands out to me about our community is your generosity. When we asked you to join us in supporting families in need for Christmas in Cordova, you did by leaps and bounds. This year's event was possible because of all the r esidents, businesses and organizations who made donations and volunteered.  I am proud to be part of such a caring community that will come together for those who need it.

I hope the holiday cheer you brought to local families is present in your home this season. On behalf of the Rancho Cordova Police Department, we wish you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

Holiday STARS Shine Brightly in Rancho Cordova

The City of Rancho Cordova and RCPD launched the Holiday STAR (Student Talent Achievement Reward) program on Thursday, December 21! Twenty-eight students from 13 Rancho Cordova elementary schools were recognized for becoming high achievers both academically and behaviorally.

The students were treated to a special breakfast; received new clothes, shoes and a backpack; and rewarded with a $100 holiday shopping spree at Walmart Rancho Cordova!  The excitement was streamed live on RCPD's Facebook page, so  click here to watch the event unfold!

Thank you to our program partners at Walmart, Famous Footwear and McDonald's for your generosity!
RCPD Creates Innovative Officer Training Program

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 29 people in the United States die in alcohol-impaired vehicle crashes every day---in 2016, that was one person every 50 minutes. In addition, the 2015 Governors Highway Safety Association survey indicated 43% of deceased drivers tested positive for drugs in their system, while 37% tested positive for alcohol.

Two RCPD Motor Officers were responding to traffic collisions and people driving under the influence of substances from alcohol to drugs when they began to notice that their fellow officers might benefit from additional training. Learn About the Program They Created

Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit

Chronic Nuisance Offender Program
RCPD has taken a proactive approach to focus on individuals who repeatedly commit crimes in the City of Rancho Cordova.

RCPD was responding to individuals who committed misdemeanor crimes in Rancho Cordova when they saw a pattern emerging. As is common with misdemeanor crimes due to jail overcrowding and the nature of the crimes, RCPD would often cite and release the offenders. The offenders would often not show up for court for the current crime. Later, RCPD would see the same individuals commit new crimes, and the process would start over again. PAL Holiday Run
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League (PAL) Holiday Run on Saturday, December 9! More than 330 people got moving to support the more than 1,200 local youth who participate in PAL programs annually.

In addition, over 500 toys were collected for the following weekend's Christmas in Cordova event. Event photos are available on the PAL Holiday Run website here.
