CORRECTION: Upcoming State Primary Election Dates & Primary Voting Registration Deadlines
In the Legislative Update that was distributed on Tuesday there was an incorrect primary date. We apologize for that error. Because nothing is more important than you taking advantage of your right to vote, we are sharing this correction.

UPCOMING PRIMARY ELECTION DATES with links to registration sites  (and primary voting registration deadlines):


March 20 Primary Election Date (NEXT WEEK!)
  • Illinois (Primary pre-registration deadline was Feb. 20. Illinois offers residents the opportunity to register to vote on election day at their home precinct. To register, voters must bring two pieces of identification: one must have their current address, and the other should be another form of ID.)
May 8 Primary Election Date
  • Indiana (Primary registration deadline is April 9. Indiana does not offer election day registration.)
  • North Carolina (Primary pre-registration deadline is April 13. North Carolina also offers residents the opportunity to register to vote on election day only during the early voting period only, between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at their home polling place. Voters must show a piece of ID with name and current address. )
  • Ohio (Primary registration deadline is April 9. Ohio does not offer election day registration.)
  • West Virginia  (Primary registration deadline is April 17. West Virginia does not offer election day registration.)
May 15 Primary Election Date
  •  Idaho (Primary pre-registration deadline is April 20. Idaho offers residents the opportunity to register to vote on election day at the polls. To register on election day, voters need proof of ID and proof of residence.)
  •  Nebraska (Online & mail primary registration deadline is April 30. In-person registration deadline is May 4. Nebraska does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • Oregon  (Primary registration deadline is April 24. Oregon does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • Pennsylvania (Primary registration deadline is April 16. Pennsylvania does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.) 
May 22 Primary Election Date
  • Arkansas (Primary registration deadline is April 23. Arkansas does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • Georgia (Primary registration deadline is April 24. Georgia does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • Kentucky (Primary registration deadline is April 23. Kentucky does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
June 5 Primary Election Date  
  • Alabama (Primary registration deadline is May 21. Alabama does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • California (Primary registration deadline is May 21. Residents who not register to vote by the 15-day voter registration deadline, in most elections, still may conditionally register to vote and cast a provisional ballot by visiting their county elections office during the period of 14 days prior to, and including, election day. Once their county elections official processes their affidavit of registration, determines their eligibility to register, and validates their information, their registration becomes permanent and your provisional ballot will be counted.)
  • Iowa (Primary pre-registration deadline is May 25. Iowa offers the opportunity to register to vote on election day. To register on election day, voters must go to the polling place for their current address and show proof of identity and residency.)
  • Mississippi (Primary registration deadline is May 7. Mississippi does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • Montana (Primary pre-registration deadline is May 7. Montana offers the opportunity to register to vote on election day at their county election office before 8 p.m.)
  • New Jersey (Primary registration deadline is May 15. New Jersey does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • New Mexico (Primary registration deadline is May 8. New Mexico does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
  • South Dakota (Primary registration deadline is May 21. South Dakota does not offer the opportunity to register to vote on election day.)
