Important Note from the Board to Members of Beacon

Beacon members will be voting on whether or not to proceed with the capital campaign on Sunday, January 7, 2018 .  Kay Crider's "Report on Financial Feasibility Study for Beacon" recommends that a super-majority of the congregational members are ready to stretch and support a capital campaign.  In accordance with the bylaws, a simple majority of a quorum is all that is needed to pass a motion to proceed with the capital campaign.

Each member's participation in this vote is strongly requested.  An attending member can only be proxy for one other member.  Absent members must register their proxy in writing with the Board Secretary, Diana Roy at:  [email protected]  at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.  If you are available to be a proxy, contact Diana to create a list of available proxies.  Voting by the proxies must be coordinated between the proxy and the absent member.
~ Building Expansion Team ~

Why is the congregation being asked to authorize building design funds?

At the January 7th meeting, there will be two votes:
  1. Whether or not to commence a Capital Campaign for the building expansion, and
  2. to authorize the withdrawal of up to $11,000 from the Building Reserve Fund.
The $11,000 comes from a fund that the congregation has already set aside for just such purposes. It is not part of our operating budget. Any withdrawal from the Building Reserve Fund must be agreed upon by a vote of the congregation.

This money will permit the architect to advance the building design from the current 10% level of completion to a more refined 25-30% level. This will allow the contractor to create a more accurate estimate of construction cost.

The Building Expansion Team understands the concerns expressed at the December 3rd Town Hall about the amount of any required loan. This advancement in the building design will give us a better idea of the loan amount that will be needed to cover the difference between what is raised by the capital campaign and the total cost of the project.
