Merry Christmas! The long-awaited day is near... I am surprised the walls of the school have not exploded with excitement!

We had a great week here at St. Michael's Academy with the 1st grade grandparent event centering around holiday foods and traditions and the 3rd grade grandparent drumming event.  It was fantastic to see so many family members at these events. We love to share the great things that happen in our school as often as possible. And, of course, we wrapped up the week with the annual Christmas sing-a-long.  Luckily we had dismissal right after the sing-a-long because I don't think the students could have taken much more!

I hope everyone has a blessed Christmas filled with all the things that make you happy.  Enjoy your time with loved ones and always remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

See everyone next year!

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

 Lost and Found

Do You Need To Find Something You Lost?

Has your child not returned home with what they had on when they left the house in the morning?  Our lost and found box, located outside the entrance to the cafeteria, is overflowing with items.

Please look to see if any of these items belong to you!  And as a reminder, please remember to put your child's name in all of their articles of clothing and lunch boxes.

All unclaimed items will be donated to the Good Will.

Perfect Attendance

Good Attendance Pays Off !

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.  Congrats to this week's winners!

From The Classroom of Ms. Enderlin - PreK4-C

The Season of Advent

In PreK4C, the students have been celebrating the Advent season!  They have learned that Advent is a time of waiting while getting ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  During the first week of Advent, the students each colored an Advent wreath and they were hung in the hallway outside of our classroom for everyone to enjoy!  The students learned that there are three purple candles and one pink candle.  The meanings of each candle are as follows:
  • Candle one (purple) represents hope and is often called the prophets' candle.
  • Candle two (purple) represents peace and is often called the angels' candle.
  • Candle three (pink) represents joy and is often called the shepherds' candle.
  • Candle four (purple) represents love and is often called the Bethlehem candle.
As each week began, the children lit the next candle on their wreath by gluing a paper flame on it.  At the beginning of this week, the children were excited to light the pink candle!

 News From Grade 8

8th Grade Students Are Making Movies

The 8th grade has been working hard to create their own Christmas Carol movie.

After reading the Christmas favorite known around the world, teams of 3 and 4 were challenged to create their own modern day twist to this classic piece of literature.  They were in charge of writing their own script, creating costume and set designs, as well as performing their own original work and editing their video. This has been a great way to spend the weeks leading up to Christmas. This activity allowed the students to internalize the message we hold dear here at St. Michael's Academy: The "Christmas" spirit and the love of Christ should be kept in our hearts and shown in our actions all year through.

 National Junior Honor Society

NJHS Thanks You

The members of the National Junior Honor Society would like to thank everyone who supported their candy cane sales this year.  Because of your generosity, they had a record breaking year of sales netting over $1,400 dollars.  The profits were then used to buy gifts for families in need.

On behalf of these families, thank you for helping to make their Christmas a little brighter.

News from Grade 2

Eating Christmas Trees?

You may have done a double-take if you walked past Mrs. Dean's 2nd grade classroom and saw students eating Christmas trees!  Luckily they were the edible kind!  The students had a blast making (and eating) their Christmas trees.

Holly Jolly Store

Shop 'Til You Drop!

And that's just what all of the students did!  There were many gifts bought at the Holly Jolly Christmas Store this year.  We hope you enjoy your gifts!!

Many thanks to the volunteers who made the store possible!   We appreciate your help!

Christmas Sing-a-long

Jingle Bell Rocking Christmas Sing-a-long!

The gymnasium was exploding with excitement as each grade took turns presenting their Christmas song.  Of particular highlight was the 7th grade rendition of the twelve days of Christmas and the 8th grade presentation of a Hawaiian Christmas!

 Grandparent Event

Grade One Delights Their Audience

Grade 1 grandparents were treated to some delightful singing from our 1st grade students this week.  Christmas melodies were ringing throughout the cafeteria as students filled the air with Christmas cheer.  There were also some delicious goodies to share!

A big thank you to Mrs. Hudak who spoke at the end of the program about the importance of St. Michael's Academy and the positive influence the school has had on her granddaughter.  We are grateful to you for sharing your kind words.

 Grandparent Event

Grade 3 ROCKS The House!

The 3rd grade rocked the house with their drumming recital Wednesday morning!  What a show they put on under the supervision of their instructor, Rick Marshall, from the Community Music School.  All the students were synchronized and impressive and even took turns doing a solo.

A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Coughlin who spoke quite eloquently about how St. Michael's Academy has helped to shape and form her grandchildren.  Your message was straight from your heart and was appreciated!
