Three new Picker Gold Challenge Grants delve into the opioid epidemic, patient feedback, and lessons in dialogue
Congratulations to the recipients of the 2017/2018 Picker Gold Challenge Grants for Residency Training: Dr. Juliette Marie Perzhinsky of Central Michigan University (pictured at left), Dr. Jennifer Barnett Breznay of Maimonides Medical Center, and Drs. Ayelet Kuper and Lisa Richardson of the University of Toronto. All are receiving funding to support a patient-centered care initiative in a residency training program. This cohort marks the first grant from the Gold Foundation for Humanistic Healthcare, Canada. Read more about the winners.

Sponsored by the Gold Humanism Honor Society, an interactive session at the AAMC Annual Meeting in Boston focused on how to identify mistreatment in medical school and what can be done to prevent it. Three experts from medical schools across the country shared tips and video scenarios that prompted lively discussion. The Gold Humanism Honor Society inducted about 3,000 new members. We welcomed our first corporate partners into the push for humanism in healthcare. And much more. Secondary Loss: Grieving after losing a daughter and healthcare friendships
Cara Coleman shares a heartfelt, powerful story: "I am given room to grieve the loss of my child. It is expected. But does anyone expect me to grieve the loss of dozens of family-provider relationships? Some people might respond that such a loss would indicate that professional boundaries were crossed and such grief and feelings of loss are inappropriate. Exactly." Read on here.
