Spring Celebration
You are cordially invited to the 3rd Annual Spring Celebration presented by The Stewart Companies, a festive evening of cocktails, dining, silent and live auctions, student presentations, music, and camaraderie on Saturday, April 28, from 6-10 PM at the Country Club of York.

Please join us as we celebrate our YC pride and successes throughout the year.  All proceeds raised from this enchanting evening will benefit our York Catholic Fund, enabling us to invest in tuition assistance for those in need, a vibrant curriculum, technology upgrades, the arts and athletics, resources for our valued teachers, and the beautification and safety of our school.

Our planning committee is actively seeking donations for our live and silent auctions.  If you can contribute a gift certificate to a local restaurant or business, tickets to a sporting/cultural event, local attraction or getaway, it will truly help our efforts and make a difference in the lives of our students.  All donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes and grateful acknowledgement at the Spring Celebration.   Click for auction item information  or  sponsorship opportunities .    Volunteer opportunities are also currently available.

YC is holding Bring a Friend to School Day on Monday, March 26. Current students can encourage an interested friend (from dance class, scouts, a sports team, your neighbor or cousin, etc.) to spend the day at YC as a shadow student. Instead of shadowing with one of our Ambassadors, they can shadow with their friend. Please have the friend's parent contact Ms. Heather Hoffman at [email protected]  or 717-846-8871 x220 by Monday, March 19, to set up a visit day and to receive a permission slip. Only students with a real interest in possibly attending YC will be scheduled for this date.
Junior High Play
This year's Junior High One Act Play is entitled, The Twilight Cone. It is Marcus's first day working at the Twilight Cone, an ice cream shop owned by his great aunt. When his aunt must run an errand, Marcus forgets his promise to serve only vanilla while he is alone in the store. Strange things begin to occur (time is rewound or slowed down, just to name two) when unusual flavors of ice cream are ordered and eaten. What will happen to Marcus and those who order ice cream from the Twilight Cone?  The play is being performed free of charge Friday, March 23, from 7-7:30 PM in the auditorium.
Senior Baby Pictures Needed

In preparation for the Senior Breakfast, we are asking families of 12th graders to send a 3x5, 4x6, or 5x7 photo of your child (when he or she was younger than age 5) into the main office to the attention of Roxanne Castellanos. Please be sure to label it with your child's name on the back. Pictures are needed by April 16. The Senior Breakfast Committee will be displaying these photos in the cafeteria the day of the breakfast.

In Case You Missed It...
Jobs Well Done
It has been a very gratifying week for the students and staff of York Catholic.

Last Saturday, our Junior High students spent their day cheering on the competitors at the Special Olympics ice skating event at the York Ice Arena.  Some of the competitors' parents wrote us notes of thanks:

" The atmosphere at last Saturday's competition was significantly enhanced by the cheering of your York Catholic students.  They were fantastic.  They consistently provided joyful cheers for all competitors, their gold pompoms flashing in rhythm with their cheering.  Those in attendance; the Special Olympics Athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents, and caregivers, all greatly appreciated their enthusiasm and spirited cheering.  Thank you!"

"Your students stayed for the entire day, and their cheering remained strong to the very end.  They made a big difference in the lives of the participating Special Olympics Athletes from Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland.  They deserve our heartfelt thanks!  We hope to see them again next year.  Thank you!"

"Our family traveled to York for the first-time this past weekend. My son, Zeke, competed in his first Special Olympics figure skating competition. He isn't much of a skater, but he loves to perform for an enthusiastic crowd. Most of the crowd noise was provided by a large contingent of York Catholic students. I want to express my gratitude to those kids. Their enthusiasm and cheering made the event everything Zeke could have hoped for."

In the evening, our Senior High students participated in Mini-THON and far surpassed their fundraising goal with a total of $22,153.30 to benefit The Four Diamonds Fund which supports families with children battling pediatric cancer.

Sunday, we welcomed Cal Ripken, Jr. and raised over $32,000 for the York Catholic athletic programs.

Yesterday, a group of seniors led a school-wide prayer service to honor the students and adults who lost their lives in the Florida school shooting tragedy.  The students encouraged the entire school to participate in #whatsyour17yc which encourages reaching out to fellow students and strangers in the community with acts of kindness.

Look for pictures of these events on the York Catholic Facebook page.

This week, more than ever, we are proud to be IRISH!
