ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lenten Adult Ed  - On Thursdays during Lent, we will be reading and discussing  The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus' Final Days in Jerusalem  by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan.  It is my hope that this study and discussion will prepare us for an even more meaningful Holy Week and Easter experience.  Please join us this evening at 7 pm.  Discussion continues on 3/22.

Lucky you--one more Sunday afternoon of pizza and games after the 10:30 service this Sunday.  Pizza and drinks provided.  Snacks and board games to share are welcome.

Saint Luke Food Pantry -What Can I Do?  - Immediate needs are canned chicken, spaghetti sauce, salmon, tuna, Spam, beef stew, and other meats.  Hunger in our community is a shame and an embarrassment and comes with a variety of explanations.  Our contributions answer immediate needs that keep the wolf at bay.  In addition to staples for Saint Luke Food Pantry, we also engage in the bag lunch program for the men's shelter the 2nd Saturday of each month and provide yearly dinners for clients of the men's shelter and for clients of Center Global.  These are all important and essential.  But what can we do as a Christian community to respond to the larger issue of hunger?  This is not a rhetorical question!

AmazonSmile Triple Donation Program - From March 12 to March 31 Amazon will triple the donation rate to Good Shepherd to 1.5% for anything that you purchase through smile.amazon.com/ch/52-0786455.

Upcoming Events

Climate Change? -  Anyone interested in representing Good Shepherd on a task force concerned with climate change?  Please contact the church office and we will provide you a contact name from St. Columba's Church.

Friday, March 23 - The Cathedral is hosting an interfaith prayer vigil at 7 pm in support of the March for Our Lives on Saturday. All are welcome. Students and leaders from many faith traditions will lead the service. Register to attend https://cathedral.org/marchforourlives

Saturday, March 24 - March for Our Lives the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today. March with us in Washington, DC or march in your own community. Begins at noon, Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington between 3rd street and 12th street.

Readers needed for Palm Sunday 8:30 service - Please sign up to help read the gospel. Sign-up sheet on the desk in the Narthex.

Sheep Permeate Good Shepherd! - Savior like a Shepherd Lead Us (children's hymn).  The Lord is my Shepherd (Psalm 23).  Sheep May Safely Graze (Messiah by Handel).  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me (John 10:27).  Sheep are used throughout the Bible to refer symbolically to God's people.  Jesus, the Good Shepherd, protects his flock and gives his life for them.  As followers of the Good Shepherd, we have the opportunity to provide the wonders of sheep through Heifer International to women and men committed to the possibilities of economic independence.  The ingathering for our 2018 Lenten Heifer Campaign is Palm Sunday, March 25.

Easter Flowers - If you would like to contribute toward Easter Flowers in memory or celebration of someone please fill out an Easter envelope found on the desk in the Narthex. Cost is $50.00. Hand the envelope to an usher or put it in the lock box on the desk by Sunday March 25.

Maundy Thursday Soup Supper - You are invited to share a simple soup supper before the Holy Thursday service with fellow parishioners. Volunteers are needed to set-up and clean up, make coffee, make soup, bring bread, or dessert.  A good will offering will be collected for Shepherd's Table. $20 is the suggested donation. Please join us on March 29 at 6 pm. A sign up sheet is posted on the desk in the Narthex.

Safeguarding God's Children - If you work in some capacity with young children (like Sunday School) you should have taken the Safeguarding course and have a certificate of completion on file in the parish office.
