Post-Irma financial predicament

By Hilbert Haar The St Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association has put its finger on a very sore spot with its analysis of the country's post-Irma financial predicament. That we are - financially speaking - down in the gutter is nobody's fault, but

Dear Reader

Our apologies for the late delivery today. No internet connection last night.

It seems we may need to get a Telnet internet connection as a backup to our Caribserve internet connection. So we will have to check with our good friend, Kendall.

News coming out of Aruba is that the Kingdom government has placed the Ministry of Finance in Aruba under higher supervision. We hope to have more news on that topic in the next issue.

A question that has been on our mind lately and for which we need to fact-check the figures, is whether Theo Heyliger actually won the elections or was it in actuality Sarah Wescot-Willaims.

According to our information, the DP part of the UD combination now controls four seats in Parliament of the seven seats that the UD won. The real question is who is loyal to whom?

The other question is whether a UD-SMCP or a UD-USP coalition has more chances of being formed the coming days? It seems that the only person who win his seat outright is holding his cards close to his chest in this game of poker in order to make sure the other players don't think they can go all in on him.

One of poll questions below deals with this topic. Bets anyone? Before it is " Rien ne va plus".

We eagerly await the outcome of this interesting poker tournament.

Have a great day!
