A New Way of Knowing Them
"Scout, my golden retriever, and I visit at the NCC detention center every week. We meet in the gym and the kids play games with him, talk with him, and have a great time.

"One day when they entered, I noticed they were all unhappy. I asked who wanted to be there with us and all said they didn't. However, after I explained the only rule was to have fun and brought out the toys, bubbles, and balls, they perked up a little. By the end of the hour, everyone was laughing and smiling and having a grand old time.

"During one visit, the psychiatrist joined us for our visit. Afterward, she said to me that it was great seeing the kids with Scout. It gave her a new way of knowing them. They were softer and more gentle and got along better than she had seen before. She now visits with us every session."

Barnes & Noble Bookfair Thank Yous
A huge thank you to all of the PAWS pet therapy teams and volunteers who helped with the Barnes & Noble bookfair.  It was a huge success raising funds, friends and awareness of PAWS.  The Barnes & Noble staff at both the Concord Pike & Christina Mall locations were gracious hosts for our events.  We truly appreciate this wonderful partnership to foster a love for reading in people of all ages.

Some Social Media Words of Wisdom by Amy
Amy Celona's presentation about Social Media at our conference last month was highly reviewed. We thought those who were not able to attend the presentation should also have the opportunity to benefit from her social media know-how!

TIP: Ever been on a visit when you don't want to spoil the moment with required photo permission paperwork? Simple - take a photo of your pet as the focal point of the interaction without any personally identifiable information about anyone else.

Shining Stars
Sud Catherine Napolitan & Gusty

Sud and Gusty, a Coton de Tulear, joined PAWS in July of 2016. Gusty was so sweet that Sud was advised by his trainer to introduce him to pet therapy. Together, they have made many friends on their visits to Cadia Healthcare - Silverside. What a great team!
Dr. Dan DePietropaolo

Dr. Dan joined PAWS in February of 2013 because, as an animal lover, he wanted to help others enjoy animals. He visits with Harriet, his Bearded Collie, and Louie, his Cockapoo. They visit at Compassionate Care Hospice and as a PAWS for Reading Team at Claymont Library. What a fantastic team!
