March 2018 - In This Issue:
Volunteer Celebration

We are working on the plans for this year's volunteer celebration event and will be able to announce details soon. Until then, just think of a beautiful evening under the stars, listening to great music with your fellow volunteers and a guest.

New Volunteer Orientation

The next new volunteer orientation will be on Wednesday, March 21 from 6-9 p.m. If you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a volunteer, please have them contact Mary Friend at [email protected] or at 317-267-0605, ext. 225.
Additional Coffee Cart Hosts Needed

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, we have a team of coffee lovers who visit patient floors and serve McDonald's coffee to the families at Riley Hospital. We are in need of at least one or two new coffee cart hosts from 9-11:30 a.m. Our biggest need is every other Thursday but we could also use someone to fill in occasionally on Tuesdays. Because you will be volunteering on patient floors, you will need to  complete the on-boarding process for Riley Hospital. Once that is completed, you will receive on-the-job training with an experienced coffee cart host.

Please contact Mary Friend at [email protected] for more information.

Transportation Update

Thank you for your patience as we work out the transportation arrangements. Below is the most up-to-date information:

We will continue to transport families between the House at Limestone, Riley Hospital for Children and Methodist Hospital.
  • Hours of Operation: 6-10 a.m. and 6-10 p.m., Monday through Friday only.
  • To request a shuttle between 6 -10 a.m. a staff member will need to contact Uber to request a ride.  Do not contact security dispatch.
  • To request a shuttle between 6-10 p.m. a Guest Services Volunteer or staff member can contact security dispatch at 317-962-8000.
This change will only impact the 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. shift, but we wanted to share this information with everyone so you have the correct information when talking with families. This change will also be communicated to guests at check-in.

Any questions should be directed to the Manager on Duty.
Data Entry Brigade - THANK YOU!

We recently found ourselves with a huge data entry project involving entering 2017 Riley Day Visit registration cards into our database so we could tabulate our year end statistics. The following people stopped what they were doing and entered the necessary information in no time. A big thank you to: Jordan Almos, Corrine Bowditch, Marci Corbin, Caitlin Hansen, Rega Kowalski and  Jack McMahon for all of your help!
Security Enhancements at Riley Hospital

While the House and Riley Hospital strive to provide the safest possible environment for all who walk through our doors, there is always room for improvement and w e were recently notified of some security and safety enhancements at Riley Hospital.

Effective immediately, there will be an increase in police staffing throughout the hospital and staffed metal detectors with video monitoring systems in lobbies at the Simon Family Tower and Riley Outpatient Center. On March 19, Riley will further restrict access by locking the Atrium Lobby entrance and require a badge to enter. All these updates aim to make Riley as safe as it can be for all who visit, stay and work at the hospital.
Operations Update
  • The price for all Coke products is now 50 cents.
  • When a guest requests a Pack N' Play or mat, please take the item to the guest's room and wipe it down with disinfectant wipes in front of the guest when possible. This will give them assurance that the item is clean and has been sanitized.
Yoga Anyone?

We are now offering complimentary yoga classes on the first Monday of each month from 7- 8 p.m. Houseguests, volunteers and staff are welcome to join. The next class will be held on MondayApril 2 so please join us! Thank you Kelly Alford from The Yoga Studio for your generous donation.
Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Michael Rhinaman, Guest Services Assistant, caught Jimmye Doorman, Guest Services Volunteer at Riley, displaying friendliness and compassion.

Michael wrote: "Jimmye spends quite a bit of time just talking to our families and seemed to be a huge source of comfort to a particular mother. When Jimmye's shift had ended, she gave a huge hug to the guest and told her it would be okay. Jimmye told her where to find the chapel and that she could speak to a Chaplin as well. After Jimmye left, the mother told me I probably had no idea how much comfort Jimmye provided her in a time of need. She wanted me to make sure everyone knew what an awesome person Jimmye is."

Thank you Jimmye. We appreciate your friendliness and compassion!

Congratulations! Your Crew Carwash pass is in the mail.

Remember, if you catch a volunteer rolling out the red carpet and providing an excellent family experience, please submit a nomination using the form below. Printed copies of this form are also available in the front office at both Limestone and Riley. Each month, all nominations are eligible for a random drawing for a Crew Carwash pass.
