H urricane Harvey made landfall on August 25 as a Category 4 storm  with sustained winds of 130 mph. The storm poured 51.88 inches of rain into some parts of Texas. We are recommending Samaritan's Purse as a Bible based, Christian organization, fully experienced and able to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Samaritan's Purse disaster relief units are now in Texas to help residents as they continue to struggle with the flooding and destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey. Samaritan's Purse President Franklin Graham said, "The flooding is just horrendous in southeast Texas. People have lost their homes, and some have lost everything. We want to go and we want to be there in their time of need, helping them in the Name of Jesus Christ put their lives back together again."

No More Mortgage
Sierra Vista Baptist, Rancho Cucamonga

Pastor Ed Lopez has been the bi-vocational pastor of Sierra Baptist since 2004. He and his wife, Carla, raised four boys, alongside Ed working a full-time job in engineering. He has been using his Talbot seminary degree to pastor this church. Sierra Baptist has 4.5 acres, two buildings (including a beautiful sanctuary built in 1995) and a paved updated parking lot. Earlier this year, after church, they had an all-church celebration Bar-B-Que. Before they grilled the steaks, they placed the mortgage on the grill and burned it. Congratulations!!!

"...We experienced numerous salvations and baptisms during this quarter, and most notable was the April Easter Beach Service where our attendance reached 210 and we had 12 ocean baptisms! We meet on the beach every 3rd and 5th Sunday. God continues to meet our needs and exceeds every expectation..." Read more.

Ban the Box?
Presented by ChurchWest Insurance Services

Have you heard of the "Ban the Box" initiative? It's a national movement to make it illegal to ask job applicants about whether or not they've been convicted of a crime prior to an offer of employment, and it's gaining steam in California. While we're all about second chances, this initiative could cost you money, time and effort during the hiring process. It could even prevent you from finding out whether or not you just hired a sex offender or dangerous criminal. In this day and age, it's critical to know whether an applicant is the right fit for a certain ministry. Check out Trinity Law professor  Myron Steeves'™ excellent presentation on the intersection of faith and law   to find out about this hot topic. You'll also get legal insight on some of the other California law-related issues facing our churches in 2017.
