Sisters Are Safe With Pa-Pa

Ella and Emma have seen things no children should ever see. For their grandfather, taking in his two young granddaughters when they needed somewhere to go was an easy decision. But figuring out how to support the girls on a fixed income was a challenge.

Thank you Angel Tree Donors!

Dallas CASA's building is full with the signs of the Dallas community's generosity and commitment to children in need. Since September Dallas CASA volunteers have been collecting holiday wish lists from the children they serve. Local corporations, organizations and individuals have taken these wish lists and fulfilled them, making holiday dreams come true for children living in foster care.

A special thank you to CASA volunteer advocates and Dallas CASA Children's Council volunteers who assisted checking in gifts and ensuring they got to the right volunteer and children.
Champion of Children Honors Junior League of Dallas

A special thank you to all guests and supporters at Dallas CASA's record-breaking Champion of Children Award Dinner on Nov. 16. The dinner honored the Junior League of Dallas with the Judge Barefoot Sanders Champion of Children Award and was attended by the largest crowd for the dinner ever.

Honorary chair was longtime Dallas CASA supporter and Junior League past president Christie Carter. Co-chairs for the evening were Corey and Priscilla Anthony and John and Laura Losinger. The evening's featured speaker, Dallas CASA volunteer supervisor and former foster child Jackie Davis, shared with the crowd the difference his CASA volunteer made for him. "Children come into this world with a light but it's only as bright as those who stand behind them and support them. My light shone because of my CASA volunteer."
Children Home Forever After National Adoption Day

More than 60 children are home forever after National Adoption Day on Nov. 18.  Fostering four-year-old Seth began last March for RaeAnn and Seth Gebhart. After a midnight phone call and a quick run to Target for a few preschooler essentials, Seth walked his way into their home and hearts like a celebrity, waving at everyone despite the late hour.  "We like to say he waved his way in," RaeAnn said. "Then he said 'One more thing. Can I have a big hug?' He'd been through so much and he was ready." Jayden became a Gebhart on National Adoption Day.

The day featured costumed superheroes opening the courtroom doors, a photographer to capture first family photos and halls filled with tearful, joyful families. Special thanks to Dallas CASA Children's Council volunteers for their help making the day so special.
Sandra Teter Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary as a CASA Volunteer

For 20 years Sandra Teter has been a Dallas CASA volunteer. She's served 47 children on 24 different cases and is known at Dallas CASA for her bridge-building and for putting both adults and children at ease.

"I've always been a compassionate person but what's been wonderful about CASA is it's given me a voice," she said. "I've learned you have to speak out for what's right. You can't leave it to other people. People get afraid of volunteering at places like CASA because they worry about seeing things they don't want to see. But the truth is these situations happen whether we see them or not."

In 2017 the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers recognized Sandra wth the Liberty Bell Award, which honors a non-lawyer who "stimulates a deeper sense of individual responsibility so that citizens recognize their duties and rights."  Thank you Sandra for 20 years of service to abused children!
