The Wave
March 9, 2018
It was such a fun, exhausting week at Camp Westwind, full of new  adventures and experiences! I hope all of the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders sleep well tonight in their own beds...I know I will!

From all reports, 4/5 week was also a success. Scavenger hunts, library visits, pancake breakfast, and the Ninja Go obstacle course - so much fun!

Hope everyone rests up this weekend and we will see all of our students back at school Monday morning - for one last week of learning before we depart for Spring Break!

The Winter Currents

Our talented staff has written for you several articles on social growth and development. This important "finding who you are" takes all sorts of twists and turns. To adults, it is often frustrating. To students, it can be confusing. We wanted to share our work and knowledge of a shared 100 years (between all of us) with preteen and teenage youth.

We hope that you will take some time to read and reflect on our experience. We hope to help put an objective focus on how we all develop socially. Some of the topics include: Talking with Teenagers, Digital Literacy and Popularity, and Significant Growth Periods.

8th Grade --> 9th Grade
Wilsonville High School will host an Incoming 9th Grade Parent Night on Wednesday, March 14 in the WHS Commons. Administration, School Counselors and Staff will present on high school transition, graduation requirements, and online forecasting. The presentation will be given in Spanish at 5:45 p.m., followed by the English presentation at 7:00 p.m. All families are encouraged to attend! TRCS 8th graders planning on attending WHS next year will need to contact the school office directly for visitation and forecasting appointments.

West Linn High School will host an Incoming 9th grade Parent/Guardian Night on April 2nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). TRCS 8th graders planning on attending WLHS will visit on April 4th (TRCS will provide transportation) and students will tour the school and get forecasting information. Forecasting forms will be due back to TRCS by April 13th, when the high school will pick them up!
Reminder: Cell Phone Meeting
Our 17/18 transition to allowing cell phones, once students attend an informational meeting, along with passing a cell phone test has proven to be excellent! We partner with our parents to help navigate this together. The best part is that the students do the learning.. and then know the expectations. They like having their phones, we like knowing that we taught them some things important to cell phone use, and have yet to have any class/school problems. If your child would like to attend a meeting, we will have one more meeting on March 14th @ 3:15- 4:00 PM @ TRCS. This meeting is a requirement for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in using a cell phone at TRCS.

Next Week News!
We want to stress that the week of March 12-16 is a full, regular week of school. We have curriculum and PE units planned. We hope that we can see full attendance all week. Spring Break is the following two weeks and is the ideal time for family vacations. Each year, we are so grateful to our parents for our high school attendance rates. Thank you in advance for helping us keep kids in school, learning and growing! We have PE planned for each day next week, so please make sure students are dressed appropriately and prepared for being active!

Also, next week you can expect the Currents mailed to your home on Monday. Report cards for Term 2 will be emailed on parents' email addresses on Thursday, March 15th. Please be watching for both of these important documents!
