Distilled Spirits Council lauds Tax Reform's Federal Excise Tax reduction on beverage alcohol
December 20, 2017, WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Distilled Spirits Council today issued the following statement from Council President & CEO Kraig R. Naasz on congressional passage of a two-year version of the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act as included in the comprehensive tax reform package, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
"The Distilled Spirits Council commends U.S. House and Senate leaders and their colleagues for approving the
Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act as part of the

Year-end Survey of US Craft Distillers:
your input needed!
by Michael Kintslick, Coppersea Distilling
We're collecting data from all US craft spirits producers.
Please take a minute to participate! ADI's anonymous survey is the industry's most comprehensive poll of actual craft distillers and the most-quoted source of information on the growth of the industry. The economic data is used by countless distilleries to make business plans and attract financing for expansion by demonstrating the viability of the industry. It is truly the survey that launched a thousand business plans. The ADI Survey is constantly quoted in magazines, newspapers and web sites, helping to elevate the respect that craft distillers earn. The answers help us inform legislators, policy makers, suppliers and distillers themselves.

Vapor Distillery captures the essence
of
Colorado and Scotland
by Linnea Covington,
Westword
It's not every day you can find American spirits created in a traditional Scottish Forsyths still, but at Vapor Distillery in Boulder, the whiskey passes through a copper pot from the respected manufacturer before being aged and bottled. The man behind the machine is Alastair Brogan, also a Scottish import, who made his way to Boulder in 2012 with the goal of getting into the booze business. After surveying the American whiskey scene, he decided to partner with master distiller Ted Palmer to create some pretty tasty tipples.
"I was literally going to find a place in Boulder with my still and make single-malt. So I went around and met everyone," says Brogan. "Ted was fantastic, an old school brewer turned distiller."

Visions of sugar cane
by Connie Connolly, Star Democrat
Visions of sugar cane still are dancing in the heads of Lyon Distilling Company's team, which flew south to see how the sweet stuff that flavors their rums is grown and processed.
Owner Jaime Windon took her team to Belle Rose, La., for a four-day research jaunt Nov. 12 to 15 to the sugar cane fields and processing factory, a 90-minute drive west of New Orleans. "It was such a cool trip," Courtney Gorman said. "We're so excited in all the photos throughout the factory; we look like these big dorks, but I'm like, how many people get to see a huge manufacturing factory - it was something straight out of London in the '30s."
...With co-founder Ben Lyon, Windon's St. Michaels company distills craft whiskey and rum. The company celebrated its fourth anniversary on Dec. 7.

A fresh take on old spirits: This SOB's revolutionary distillery story by The Shires of Vermont Bennington Area Chamber
Founded in 2014, Spirits of Old Bennington [SOB] is a Southern Vermont Distillery focused on "Distilling Vermont Traditions to Perfection." Spirits of Old Bennington was born out of Vermont's "Revolutionary" traditions. The spirits embody the complex character of the Shires of Vermont region. The ghosts of Vermont's past and agricultural roots guide their crafting of the highest quality artisanal spirits. From battlefields to taverns to the covered bridges that gave cover to Prohibition-era bootleggers, the distillery engages local farmers, artists and innovative businesses to establish their supply chain for ingredients and build their brand. In true revolutionary spirit and like the Green Mountain Boys themselves, SOB is storming the craft distilling market with their premium, unique-flavored gins, rums and cocktails.
