Claflin University will be closed for the holidays on Thursday, December 21, 2017, through Tuesday, January 2, 2018. The University will reopen on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. The next edition of @Claflin will be published on January 10, 2018.

Jessica Myles, '12, received her master's degree in mathematics on December 18 from the University of South Carolina. Myles received her M.Ed. in 2014 from USC and currently serves as a mathematics instructor at Claflin University.

Kierra Carter, '17, is currently featured on the BET (Black Entertainment Television) Family Getaway Sweepstakes Universal Orlando Resort commercial. The commercial currently airs nationally on BET networks and encourages viewers to enter a sweepstakes to win a family vacation to Universal Orlando Resort.

Claflin Men's Basketball Team Cruises Past Spring Hill

The Claflin University men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to 11 as they cruised past Spring Hill, 79-52, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) men's basketball contest in the Tullis Arena on Saturday, December 16.  With the win, the Panthers improve to 12-1 overall and remain perfect in the SIAC at 5-0.
 
The men's basketball team will take a break for the Christmas holiday and return to action on Saturday, December 30 against Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.


Lady Panthers Win Over Spring Hill
 
The Claflin University Lady Panthers upended Spring Hill College 75-65 in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) basketball contest on Saturday, December 16 in the Tullis Arena.  With the win, Claflin improves to 7-6 overall, but more importantly 4-1 in the SIAC.

The Lady Panthers will return to action on Saturday, December 30 when they travel to Wilberforce, Ohio, to take on Central State University in a SIAC contest.


Stokes Earn SIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Claflin University women's basketball player Jhanice Stokes has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.  The Player of the Week Honors were announced by the league office on Tuesday, December 19.
 
Stokes (6-2, senior, center), led the Lady Panthers to a 1-1 record, pushing Claflin to a 4-1 record in conference play as they defeated conference opponent, Spring Hill. The Charleston, S.C. native averaged 18 points (6 rebounds) during the week for the Lady Panthers. In the SIAC conference win over Spring Hill, she had a career-high 23 points with eight rebounds a block and steal.
