As we prepare ourselves for the spring, we are reminded of all the opportunities that await our community. Discovering the potential in every member of The Commons family is our focus, and we continue to develop and build upon that principle every day.
AFTER SCHOOL STRONG
Our programs continue to blossom with every passing day. Due in part to our strong partnerships with Trinity School and JCC Manhattan, we have been able to provide consistent academic support to our youth via one-on-one tutoring sessions. Beyond the immediate impact this has on their studies, the relationships our youth develop with their tutors helps foster their socio-emotional growth, a major part of strengthening their academic resiliency. At The Commons, we strive to provide support for the whole student, accounting for their needs in every way we can.
FUN FOR ALL
While we appreciate the importance of hard work, we also understand that there should be time for play. Every Friday at The Commons is Fun Friday, where our youth explore new activities, games, and artistic expression. Some Fridays see us try new science experiments, some find us playing computer games, and others bring out our creative side via art-making. On a recent excursion, everyone enjoyed some time bowling! Whatever your idea of fun is, we encourage everyone to make some time to enjoy themselves with family and/or friends and have some fun!
#FREENEWYORK
Advocacy is an important part of the work we do. We recently signed on to support JustLeadershipUSA's campaign to address New York's statewide jail crisis. #FREENewYork demands overhaul of bail, speedy trial and discovery laws, and an end to New York's jail crisis. To learn more, or to sign on to support the campaign, please visit their page by clicking here.
TENANT ADVOCACY
