Mountains are "thin places" in the Bible. Lots of important events took place on mountains:
-Noah's ark landed on Mount Ararat after the flood.
-God asked Abraham to sacrifice Issac on Mount Moriah.
-Moses got the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai.
-Elijah challenged the false prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.
-The temple was built on top of Mount Zion.
-The transfiguration of Jesus took place on Mount Tabor.
And, Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount on a mountain too. It's the most radical and challenging sermon ever delivered.
This Sunday I'm going to preach on the Preamble to the sermon in Matthew 5:1-11.
