eConnection Spotlight: RMS in the Neighborhood
Celebrating with our Global Neighbors
As the church together with all of our global companions, our neighborhood reaches far beyond our local witness.

"We heard music in English, Arabic, Amharic, Nuer, and Dinka, as we rededicated the space to the glory of God, praying that it will continue to be "a gate of heaven" and "a holy ground," which were the prayers offered at its dedication in 1909."

ELCA missionary Rev. Kirsten Fryer shares these words about the rededication service of St. Andrew's United Church in Cairo, Egypt where she serves. The rededication service -- to celebrate the completion of repairs needed after a nearby bombing damaged the church building two years ago -- was attended by ELCA staff, visitors from the US, Canada, and Scotland, as well as members from each of the congregations that worship at St. Andrews.

Welcome Julie Nelson!
Our synod's new Associate Director of Educate, Equip, Enact!
Beginning January 1, Julie is filling the newly created position of Associate Director of Educate, Equip, Enact. Educate, Equip, Enact is our three year, Lilly Endowment funded initiative to address the economic challenges facing our rostered ministers.

Julie is a Colorado native, Colorado Mesa University grad and early-retiree from Hewlett Packard Company where she held various Business Operations & Marketing positions. She, and her husband Barry, are the proud parents of two college age daughters. Always a farm girl at heart, she spends as much time as she can digging in the dirt or helping with her parents farming operation outside of Kersey.

To strengthen the impact of our Lilly Grant, the position of Project Director will now be shared. Julie, who is currently the chair of the Grants Team, will focus on the work of the Ministry Excellence Fund including grants, scholarships, and fundraising. Sunday, December 24
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Prayer of the Day
Stir up your power, Lord Christ, and come. With your abundant grace and might, free us from the sin that would obstruct your mercy, that willingly we may bear your redeeming love to all the world, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Global Church Prayer
God, who gives favor to all who seek to follow your will, praise to you for all people who are servants of the Lord, especially to Christ’s mother, your handmaiden, Mary. We give thanks for all people who serve as your servants overseas, especially in the Holy Land, where you lived and walked, through your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

January Stewardship Toolkit
Rev. Rob Blezard, Assistant to the Bishop Lower Susquehanna Synod, has created a monthly stewardship toolkit with bulletin reflections, newsletter articles, and resources for preaching, teaching, and year-round stewardship.

Stewardship Snippet
January 7, 2018 (Baptism of the Lord)
Genesis 1:1-2: “In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.”
Where do we come from? For that matter, where did anything come from? These first two verses of the whole Bible remind us that God created all that was, all that is, and all that will be. God made it all, even us, and everything belongs to God. That’s the first rule of stewardship.
