Pastor Fred O. Pitts |
The Pitts Stop
Cindy, Serafina, Vivian, and I have been here in St. Augustine four months now, and it really is beginning to feel like home. We are more and more settled each and every week, it seems. We thank you again for helping us to feel so welcomed and to feel settled so quickly.
While we are feeling settled as a family, I don't want to feel settled in the ministry here. Any time a new pastor comes to any church, a new "chapter" of that church ministry begins, and just as in any good book, each chapter brings a newness and moves the story along. When I came, I told you I would spend the first 3-6 months preaching the word and getting to know both the church and the community. And I hope I have been making progress in each of these.
A huge step in writing this new "chapter" is to hear from you-your hopes and dreams for Ancient City Baptist Church! Together, as pastor and people, we want to discover what God is saying to us and how we can join him in his work. As Baptists, while we believe in the leadership of pastors and others, we also believe that God speaks through the body as a whole. That's why I want you to make a special effort to attend our upcoming Vision Banquet! On Sunday evening, November 12, at 6 p.m., we will gather for a special evening that will kick off our process of discovering what God has in store for us in this new chapter in our history. At the banquet, I will share my own understanding of the general direction God would have us go; you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and dreams both orally and through a response sheet. If you need a ride, please ask someone. The church will provide the entrée; we ask others to bring side dishes as able. It will be a wonderful time of fellowship as we enter the Thanksgiving season. There is indeed much to be thankful for!
After the banquet, there will be another special opportunity for your input. As pastor, I want to offer "Congregational Conversations with the Pastor." These will be 45 minute conversations for me to meet with individuals, couples, families, or small groups of friends (up to 3). In these conversations, you will have the opportunity to share just with me some of your thoughts as I ask questions that will at once give you an additional opportunity to share input and also give us a chance to get to know each other a little better. More on how to sign up later.
After all this input is received, a Vision Team selected by our Trustees will work prayerfully and diligently through the feedback and the discernment they receive from the Lord to bring back a report early in 2018 for the entire church to discuss and affirm. I would expect that this report would include a consensus of what God is even now putting on our hearts. So I ask you to pray for the Lord's leadership, not simply our personal preferences, as we share dreams together.

Important Announcement
About Parking
We have been informed that beginning this Sunday, November 5, the city of St. Augustine will issue parking violation tickets for anyone parked on a yellow curb. Realizing that some of you have used these areas in the past due to health limitations, we are designating two small grass lots adjacent to the church as lots for the disabled. Signs will be in place. One lot is on Carrera Street near the back entrance to the sanctuary, the other is slightly larger and located on Sevilla Street diagonally across from the paved parking lot and next to the education building. If you do not have a disability, please save these parking areas for those with disabilities. Of course, we do have
parking spaces for
the legally handicapped in the paved lot on Sevilla Street, across from the main entrance to the church.

Life Services Victories
Report from Lynn Parent, Client Advocate Director
We have had the privilege of seeing the hand of God in action this past month! In the midst of devastation in the world around us; hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, the miracle of life still happens. Our staff member, Nadia, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Eliana Grace, on September 22. Please see her picture below.
There have also been two babies born to families that have been active in our parenting classes. Danielle has been a part of Life Services from the time of her pregnancy test on the ICU mobile unit all the way through to receiving her beautiful bundle of joy from heaven. She and her fiancé, Dustin, have been attending parenting classes faithfully. They had a beautiful baby girl whom they proudly named Abrielle. Through their conversation with a relative, another couple also came to the parenting class and recently had a precious little girl whom they named Alexis.
These two little ones will grow-up in loving families with the benefit of the Christian foundation and training provided by our parenting classes. Your sacrificial gifts and support to Life Services are making a powerful impact.

Academy News
On Friday, October 27, the Academy children and their families celebrated their annual fall festival. As in the past, there was a huge jump-o-rama, face painting, arts and crafts, games. a story time, and special refreshments. We appreciate those from the church who came out to meet the families and enjoy the children.
