Here's what's new on the Jackson County 4-H website this month!
Office Closures

The Extension Office will be closed on Monday, January 1st and Monday, January 15th for holiday celebrations. We hope you enjoy time with your friends and family! 


Ambassador Kick Off Meeting

Please see the attached flyer for the Ambassador Kick-Off Meeting on January 2nd. Please RSVP by December 27th, and if you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office!



Join the Jackson County 4-H Marketing and Promotions Committee!

Please see the attached flyer for more information on our new Marketing and Promotions committee.  We are setting up this committee up as a results of our GOT: VIVA plan, and we are hoping to have at least one youth (grades 6+) or adult representative from each club. Please contact us if you have any questions!


THANK YOU Corn Cob Open!

Through this past summer, 4-H members and volunteers helped prepare and serve food at the Corn Cob Open and in return, they make a donation to our program. We are grateful for all the support Corn Cob has shown us over the course of their 35 year run. Lastly, make sure to thank a committee member if you see them! 



Santa's Workshop Thank You!

Thank you to Anna, Ashley, Cailyn, Claire, and Mady for helping out at Santa's Workshop last month. In a three hour period, we helped over 150 kids make crafts for themselves or a loved one. Thanks to Bank Midwest for sponsoring this event with us! 



Afterschool Adventures

Due to all schools having multiple days off in January, there will be no Afterschool Adventures in January. We hope to see you starting in February 2018!Make sure to include who, what, where, when and why. 



Federation and Advisory Board

Please note that our next Federation and Advisory Board meetings will be held on Monday, January 22nd at 6:30 (AB) and 7:30 (Federation) PM at the Lakefield Multi-Purpose Building.


Re-Enrollment

Re-enrollment for the 2017-18 4-H year is now OPEN! You can now go in to 4-HOnline at   https://mn.4honline.com and 
 and re-enroll yourself as a member and adult volunteer. The process is the same as last year, so if you have any questions, please let us know!

Since we are getting to the time of the year when winter weather can pop up, we would like to remind you that if school is cancelled for the day OR if schools are let out early due to weather, all 4-H events will AUTOMATICALLY be CANCELLED.

Did you know that the 2018 Jackson County Fair is going to be the 150th Anniversary?
 
Make sure to reserve your rooms for the 2018 Minnesota State Fair!

SW 4-H Summer camp will be held June 18-22, 2018. We are looking for camp counselors in grades 9 and up to help lead camp. Applications are being accepted now through January 17.
 
An exciting day is being planned on Saturday, February 24th from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at SMSU, Marshall. This is open to all 4-H screened adult volunteers!
 
Save the date for the 2018 Southwest Animal Science Challenge!                                            The 2018 Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Wabasso, Minnesota. This event will include horse and livestock project bowl competitions, hands-on skill-a-thon stations, and workshops on a variety of topics. 4-H'ers can attend as a project bowl team, or as an individual
 
This scholarship is for high school seniors and first-year college students currently enrolled in    4-H. Application deadline March 5, 2018.
 
Associate dean and state 4-H director Dorothy Freeman celebrates the connection between 4-H and healthy choices in young people. Two 4-H members' stories are featured and you're invited to share your own healthy living story.
 
Minnesota 4-H youth in grades 9-13 are invited to strengthen their communication, leadership, and citizenship skills at a national level by attending Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington D.C. from June 23-30, 2018. Registration will open Feb. 1, and close when all spaces have been filled, or by Feb. 28, whichever comes first.
 
The 2018 Building Leadership & Understanding (BLU) leadership retreats will be held in five different locations across the state during the month of February. BLU is a great opportunity for youth in 6th grade and above to meet youth from across their region and learn about leadership too!
 
Starting in 2018 the 4-H Engineering Design Rube Goldberg Challenge will include high school youth in grades 9 to one year after high school. The 2018 challenge will be to "plant a seed and water the seed".
 
Jerry Ludwig has been chosen as Minnesota's 4-H Salute to Excellence Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer.
 
Crissy Otting has received the Minnesota 4-H Salute to Excellence Volunteer of the Year Award.
