What the Spirit Is Saying to Our Church
"Let anyone who has ears to hear listen to what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 2.7 (CSB)
After a wonderful (and busy) Christmas season, we hope to hit the ground running in 2018! Beginning the first week of the new year, we will be offering "Congregational Conversations" as another opportunity for you to give input into our visioning process.
As I shared at our Vision Banquet in November when everyone was given an opportunity to complete a Response Card, I will be offering everyone the additional opportunity to meet with me for 45 minutes as individuals, couples, or small groups of up to 3 or 4. I will be asking questions to receive feedback, and that is the primary purpose of the conversations; however, since I am still in my first year of ministry here, it will also help me to get to know you (and thus the church) better. We will have sign up sheets available on Sundays and Wednesdays early in the new year for you to select a slot; you can also call Pat Hampton in the church office after the first of the year to reserve a spot.
Our Vision Team will also begin meeting early in the new year, and we will take the responses from the Vision Banquet and our Congregational Conversations into consideration as we ask God for wisdom for this chapter of our church's life. We want to hear and obey the voice of God.
Two special church-wide emphases will take place during this time as well. First, a
s a church, we will enter "40 Days of Prayer" as we ask God to clearly speak and to give us ears to hear. Second, I will begin a new message series in mid-January entitled, "DiscipleLIFE." These seven messages will help us evaluate our walk with God both as individual Christians and as a church as a whole and will be important to our visioning process.
Thank you for a wonderful first six months here. Cindy and I have been blessed by you and are grateful to God for bringing us here.

Soup, Salad & Scripture
Plans for the New Year
"In the beginning was the Word." This declaration of truth has been the guiding light for the studies at
Soup, Salad & Scripture
over the last 5 years. God has always had an eternal plan and that plan
included using a particular group of people to demonstrate His truth and to shine the light of God to all nations. The customs, rituals, and teachings instituted by God illustrate His truth.
Over the next few months we will be taking a closer look at some of these. Through this study, aided by fantastic visual footage captured in the Holy Land, we shall identify the richness of God's revelation to the Jewish nation. With the help of several Old Testament scholars, most of them with a Jewish heritage, we will learn how God prepared His people for the coming of the Messiah and for His death and resurrection. As we do so, we will also refer to the book of Hebrews and other New Testament writings that bring these experiences together.
We will observe that while there have been a variety of presentations of God's truth over thousands of years, there actually has been only
one revelation. In the words of the Apostle John, that has always been "the revelation of Jesus Christ."
As we enter this new study
we want to invite newcomers to join our study and fellowship
. We meet on Tuesdays at 11:30 am and begin with lunch which is provided. We proceed with fellowship and study ending by 1 pm. Our winter/spring sessions will begin January 9th and continue through April 2.

Academy News
On Wednesday, December 20, the Academy children drew a nice crowd for their Christmas program. Parents, grandparents and siblings were present to enjoy the singing and take pictures.
After the program, cookies and milk were served in the fellowship hall. The Academy wishes to thank Rhonda Parker who helped with the refreshments and Janice Treadway who practiced with the children and played the piano for the program.

Holy Land Experience
--Trip Being Planned--
A day trip on a luxury motor coach from our church to Orlando is being organized with the help of Nell Porter using Vivo Tours. A representative from the company will be in the fellowship hall after church on January 7th to provide complete information. Everyone is invited and the more attending the lower the price. Tentative date for the trip is January 26 with a departure time of 9 am and return to the church by 5 pm. Please come by the fellowship hall to learn more.
