Homeowners Insurance Rate Increase Requested by Insurance Industry
In late November, the North Carolina Rate Bureau filed notice with the North Carolina Department of Insurance asking for a statewide average increase in homeowners
insurance rates of 18.7 percent for 2018.

President Signs the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act"
On December 22, 2017, President Trump signed the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act". The U.S. House and Senate approved the conference agreement of the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" earlier in the week.
All individual provisions of the measure are generally effective after December 31, 2017 for the 2018 tax filing year and expire on December 31, 2025 unless otherwise noted. The provisions do not affect tax filings for 2017 unless noted.

Just Say NO! Rate Bureau Wants Rate Hike-Again!
(WILMINGTON, NC) - On November 20th, the NC Rate Bureau sent a request to the NC Department of Insurance, requesting approval to increase homeowner insurance rates an average of 18.7 percent.
"We oppose this because rates are already too high," said CEO Taylor Oldroyd. "Coastal property owners are hit with high homeowner rates, plus separate policies for wind and hail, and many are also required to have flood insurance. These multiple policies do not reflect the actual risk, and instead an inflated risk, and this needs to be remedied, as an issue of fairness, and it dramatically impacts housing affordability."
As the largest professional association in the eastern half of the state with 2,500 dues-paying members,
CFR is asking all members to send an email to the Insurance Commissioner urging denial of the Rate Bureau request.
Emails should be sent to:
[email protected] on or before December 29th.
Homeowners and area residents are also encouraged to send comments to the Commissioner.
