A Resource Worth Sharing
When exciting things happen, we can't help but share the good news! As part of our Teaching Above the Line building goal at Roxbury High School, Fran London and her IPR students have been working hard at compiling a ' Resource Review Padlet' that shares a variety of tools that can be found on the web.

Students evaluate the tool according to a specific set of criteria. They include their own review of the tool, how it can be used and what they like about it.

We would LOVE for you to check out the resources, rate them, and provide comments. Teachers, it just may spark a great idea for you to try in your classroom! The students are excited to see what kind of feedback they receive from beyond the four walls of their classroom.  Click here to check out the Resource Review Padlet.

Broadway Shows Bus Trip to NYC

Choose from two great shows, Kinky Boots or Wicked on Saturday, March 3rd.
Kinky Boots is the exhilarating Broadway musical that will lift your spirits to new high-heeled heights! Winner of six Tony Awards® including Best Musical, this inspirational story follows a struggling shoe factory owner who works to turn his business around with help from Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. Together, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... providing that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.

Wicked... So much happened before Dorothy dropped in.  Wicked, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz...but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin--smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blond who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships...until the world decides to call one "good," and the other one "wicked." With a thrilling score that includes the hits "Defying Gravity," "Popular" and "For Good," Wicked has been hailed by The New York Times as "the defining musical of the decade." Time Magazine cheers, "if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place."

Hopatcong Block Party Open to Sponsors and Vendors
Winter's chill may be keeping people huddled inside their homes for now, but there's no freeze on plans for a celebration designed to help thousands of Lake Hopatcong area neighbors warm back up in the spring.

The Fifth Annual Lake Hopatcong Block Party, at Hopatcong State Park in Landing, is scheduled for May 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF), the event gives scores of businesses and organizations an opportunity to showcase their work, attracting thousands of visitors to the popular lakeside venue.  Guests will also be entertained with live music, boat and mini-train rides, on-the-water demonstrations, a children's area and, of course, numerous food and beverage options. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Before Departing, Christie Keeps Roxbury Station Revival on Track
Funding approved Monday by former Gov. Chris Christie means restoration of the historic former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad station in Landing should be finished before summertime.  The $259,000 historic preservation grant authorized by the outdoing governor will enable the Lake Hopatcong Foundation to complete most of the train station project, said Marty Kane, a local historian and chairman of the foundation's board of trustees. The 107-year-old structure's rehabilitation began shortly after the station was purchased by the foundation in 2014. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Two 'Talon-ted' Volunteers Earn Eagle Rank in Roxbury
Roxbury Boy Scout Troop 54 welcomed its 119th and 120th Eagle Scouts with open "wings" on Jan. 13.  James Burke and Michael Hayde, both seniors at Roxbury High School, were awarded the honored title at the United Methodist Church on Main Street in Succasunna after 12 years of dedication to the Boy Scouts of America.  To become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must, among other requirements, earn 21 merit badges; Hayde earned 27 and Burke earned 34. Landfill Tainted Roxbury Stream Keeps Getting Cleaner
The water quality of Ledgewood Brook, a stream near the former Fenimore Landfill, has improved dramatically in the years following the state's capping of the problematic dump, according to a water quality watchdog group.

The purity of Ledgewood Brook was tested last June by the non-profit Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) and determined to be "good." The RHA rates stream health using a scale called the High Gradient Macroinvertebrate Index (HGMI) which tests for the existence of tiny crustaceans, worms and insects that die off first when streams are polluted. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Christie Signs Lake Hopatcong Fund Bill
The state will provide $500,000 annually to preserve and maintain Lake Hopatcong, thanks to proposals signed into law Monday by Gov. Chris Christie in his last day in office.

One of the new law's sponsors was state Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, who also serves as Roxbury's township counsel. Roxbury is one of four municipalities bordering Lake Hopatcong, the state's largest lake.

"Lake Hopatcong is a powerful economic engine with a 38-mile shoreline," said Bucco," who described himself, in a statement, as "a long-time advocate for state assistance to ensure Lake Hopatcong remains a recreational and environmental treasure." Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.
