Excerpts from the Special Meeting of the Cypress School District Board of Trustees
held on December 13, 2017
The Board held a special study session to review the district's Facilities Master Plan, including progress to date, projected facilities needs, and facilities funding sources.  In addition, the Board discussed district office facility needs and consolidating operations. A follow-up study session is scheduled for January 11, 2018, at 3:30 p.m.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Recognition of President Brian Nakamura
Superintendent Silavs, on behalf of all district personnel and the Board of Trustees, presented Mr. Nakamura with a plaque in appreciation for the leadership he provided as Board President in 2017.

Organizational Meeting
Each year the Board holds an organizational meeting during which, among other administrative tasks, officers are elected and a schedule of regular meetings is developed for the upcoming calendar year.

Professional Development on My Math and Course I Math Curriculum
The Board approved professional development for Instructional Learning Coaches on the district's new math curriculum so that the coaches may provide teachers with ongoing support.  The total cost for this training is $2,500.
 
School Library Consultation Services
An Independent Contractor Agreement with Darielle Marie Tom, a credentialed Library Media Teacher, was approved to provide school library consultation services during the 2017/18 school year at a cost of $500.
 
2016/17 Audit Report
The audit report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017, prepared by Nigro & Nigro, PC, was presented to the Board.  The audit revealed no findings.
 
2017/18 First Interim Financial Report
The District is required to submit a First Interim Financial Report by December 15 of each year. This report reflects actual revenue and expenses as of October 31, as well as projected revenue and expenses through June 30. The board certified the district's 2017/18 First Interim Financial Report and authorized filing a positive certification with the Orange County Department of Education and California Department of Education. A Second Interim Financial Report will be presented to the Board in March 2018.
 
Amendment to Exchange Agreement and Joint Escrow Instructions for District Office Property
The Board ratified an amendment to the Exchange Agreement and Joint Escrow Instructions with Melia Homes, Inc., approved  in September 2017, which allows for the exchange amount to be adjusted based on the fees charged to Melia Homes Inc. by the City of Cypress and the number of units approved by the city.  
 
Consultant Services for District Communications Plan
The Board approved entering into an agreement with Terilyn Finders, Director of Communications and Legislative Affairs at Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP, to provide an on-site audit, communication planning services, and administrative training over a nine-day period at a maximum cost of $7,400.

Cypress Education Foundation Board of Directors for 2018
The Cypress Education Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of five members - the Superintendent, two directors appointed annually by the Superintendent, and two directors and an alternate appointed annually by the Board of Trustees. At the December meeting, the Board appointed Christine Barnes and Christie Parker as directors and Ethel Bowman as alternate director for 2018.
 
California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly
The California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly provides policy direction for the association and ensures that the association reflects the interests of school districts and county offices of education. Trustee Kern has served as a delegate representing Orange County since 2016. The Board nominated Trustee Kern for a second two-year term.
