Meet Lou

What is your job title and what does the position entail?

Application engineer- making the customer’s requirements a reality.

What do you like best about working at ACS so far?

This is a big change for me – coming from a huge company full of policies, procedures, structure and meetings to a small, agile group of motivated, competent people. Added to that is the fun of a dog-friendly workplace.

Can you tell us a little about your background and how it helps you in this position?

In my past roles in the Navy and in a major manufacturer consumer products company, I got to define the needs and develop ways to meet them. This gives me a good view of the process from the customers’ side.

What are some key lessons you have taken from your career thus far?

Always look at the job holistically. There are many ways to solve each issue. Step back and think a bit and you could save a bunch of time, money and anguish. Then, make sure that the person doing the work has a healthy sense of follow-through. The devil is usually in the details, so check everything and cover all your bases.

Describe some of your hobbies – what do you like to do outside of ACS?

I live to be on, near or under the water. I love to ski, sail, scuba dive, wakeboard and wakesurf. I’m also an amateur woodworker and home-brewer.

What is one thing your customers might find surprising about you?

One of my prized possessions is a plate recovered by a friend from the wreck of the Andrea Doria. To me the wreck is interesting from the errors in ship handling, the amazing survival stories such as the ‘miracle girl’, and the complex and dangerous conditions to dive it.

Do you have any trips planned soon?

I just completed the trip of a lifetime – a 6 month assignment in the England with the ability to see a lot of the UK and mainland Europe. Time to knuckle down and do good things at work.

What’s your favorite place in or near Atlanta?

We’ve just moved to an interesting little town where there’s always something going on, from themed street parties to outdoor concerts, some fun local restaurants and many hiking trails. But we’ve just moved here so there’s plenty to explore.
