Celebrate Ending a Family's Homelessness!
Amy and her two children exited homelessness and moved into their new permanent home thanks to the dedicated help they received from Esther, an MCCH staff member. Esther will continue to support Amy's family to ensure they never experience homelessness again! Donors Making a Difference:
Urgent Needs Task Force
Jim and Barbara were once homeless and now have a safe, stable home through MCCH. Jim recently had back surgery, but was struggling in his recovery at home because their mattress was incredibly old and no longer supportive. They needed a new queen sized mattress ASAP to aid in his recovery.

We knew this was a big ask, but we turned to our friends in MCCH's Urgent Needs Task Force Facebook group and asked if anyone could fill this need. Within hours, the bed was ordered and shipped to our office!

Thanks to Michele and David Craig for their generous donation and commitment to our clients! This new bed will not only help Jim while he recovers, but will improve his life for many years.
There are so many creative ways to give back to MCCH!

Debra threw a surprise 18 th birthday party for her daughter and, in lieu of gifts, she asked her guests to bring household items to donate to MCCH clients.

Thanks to their efforts, they donated two laundry baskets filled with household items to help our clients transition out of homelessness!
What qualifies someone to deserve a home? Should they be healthy? Mentally stable? Free from addiction? In the past, these were qualities that determined if someone was eligible for subsidized housing, and this exclusionary method left a lot of people without homes.

In recent years, research has shown that a different approach called Housing First is the most effective way to end homelessness. This model is so effective that it is now considered a best practice by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

At MCCH, we believe that housing is a basic human right, not something that is earned. Housing First guides our work to ensure the best possible outcomes for the clients we serve. But why does this practice work?
In Case You Missed It:
Thank you for your commitment to ensuring that all Montgomery County residents have a safe, stable and affordable place to call home!

Sincerely,

Susie Sinclair-Smith, Executive Director
