Over 200 guests joined us on Friday, February 9 for the 2018 Art & Chocolate Gala. A huge thanks to everyone who made the evening delicious, beautiful, and fun!
Thank you MCHS! New for this year's Gala, students from Mifflin County High School designed and crafted a boardwalk replica as a fundraiser for ClearWater's Connections program , which supports hundreds of field trips to Millbrook Marsh Nature Center every year ( article here ). Let's talk about conserving our water resources

At a time when our community continues to prosper and grow, there’s an intensifying need to value, plan for and manage our water. A clean, reliable water supply is the life-blood of our community, providing for our families in our homes, sustaining our environment and outdoor recreation, and supporting a vibrant regional economy. When our community leaders consider new proposals such as the Nestle project recently proposed to be located in Spring/Benner Townships, the highest possible standard must be set to protect the integrity of our water supply, now and in the future. Thoroughly weighing benefits and risks of increasing demands on our water supply takes time, good science, and transparency. ClearWater Conservancy is driven by our core values – to focus on the future, act with integrity, and apply sound science to the responsible management of our natural resources. Based on our values, we believe the concept of an industry dependent on continuous extraction and export of our region’s groundwater raises questions and concerns that have not yet been adequately addressed. Anyone interested in improving their land or acreage for the benefit of humans, flora and fauna will not want to miss the Woods in Your Backyard: Learning to Create and Enhance Natural Areas.

2018 VERNAL POOL TOUR
March 7, 8-10 pm
(conditions permitting)

Offered every spring since 2005 and led by ClearWater volunteer Jim Julian, Ph.D., a lecturer in biology at PSU's Altoona Campus, this is an opportunity to see examples of vernal pools - temporary ponds - and the diversity of rarely seen amphibian species they support, such as migrating spotted salamanders. Registration for the event fills quickly, so register today!

Watershed CleanUp Day:
Saturday, April 21
8 am-12 pm

Last year over 600 volunteers kept 38 TONS of trash out of our waterways in just FOUR hours! Can you pitch in to do help us do it again this year? !The big CleanUp will be followed by a volunteer picnic at Circleville Park, with games and live music, making it a perfect way to spend your Earth Day Weekend!

Welcome Dan Trew, Adventure Coordinator!

Help us extend a warm welcome to Dan Trew, AmeriCorps Service Member and new Adventure Coordinator at ClearWater Conservancy! Dan will be coordinating Centred Outdoors events and Adventures in Conservation.An aerospace engineer turned nature nerd, Dan graduated from Penn State and decided to stay local to be a part of the growing State College community—taking a tack of following his passions and not frowning at a computer all day. Dan is an avid proponent of all things fun outside; hiking in the encircling state forests, canoeing on world-class streams, and rolling around in the snow pretending to cross country ski are some of the many activities he can be found doing. Equipped with a breadth of local outdoor knowledge and a life spent out-of-doors, Dan is the steward for growing the appreciation for and engagement in the local population for the natural resources ClearWater helps protect.
