The excitement is building!

Spring is coming to the North Island and home building is in the air. It's an exciting time at Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North as we are doing something we have never done before: building in two communities at the same time!

Construction  will begin this spring at both 477 Hilchey Road in Campbell River and 1330 Lake Trail Road in Courtenay, with big plans to build 19 homes over the next three years. Both developments are municipally approved and building permits are imminent. It's been an amazing learning curve getting to this point, but our construction teams are eager to put their collective shovels into the ground.

Volunteers will be the key to our successful builds as they always have, and I know that you are all ready to give what you can to ensure the success of these two projects. Food services, site hosts, construction leads and mentors, wall builders, floor nailers and yes, even drywalling -- we can't do it without you.

Thanks to our ReStore and build volunteers, donors, staff, and Board of Directors for making these projects come to life. Partnering with 19 families in the next three years will bring our total of families served to 42 on the North Island.

I look forward to seeing you all out on the build.

build updates
We hope that all of our dedicated build volunteers have enjoyed a few months reprieve from active construction. Now, it is time to dust off those steel-toed boots and dig out your work gloves because we are getting ready to start construction.

Pending final development permits, we will be building in both Campbell River and Courtenay in just a few weeks.
Volunteers working in the prefab shop
Prefabrication Shop

Paul Ryniak and a crew of dedicated volunteers are building interior walls and stairs at the Prefabrication Shop (1790C Tamarac Street), which is located next to the Campbell River ReStore. New volunteers are welcome to join this crew and enjoy working inside, out of the elements.
Starting March 20th | 1-acre | Two homes completed and nine more to go.

We hope to begin pouring foundations in late March. Comox Valley volunteers who would like to help in Campbell River will be able to ride up-Island on the Builder Bus. If volunteers are scheduled  for transportation , the bus will be leaving from the Courtenay ReStore each morning at 8:15. (Be sure to email us if you want to ride the Bus.)
Comox Valley Build - 1330 Lake Trail Road

Starting April 9th | 0.83 of an acre | 10 homes to build.

A Volunteer Services Centre is currently under construction and we are waiting on the installation of ground services in the coming weeks. Foundations are expected to be poured in early April. Some shifts may be posted to work on finishing the Volunteer Services Building in mid-March.

Volunteer opportunities for all three projects are now listed on our online Volunteer Matrix.
  • New volunteers are encouraged to pre-register on The Matrix and then sign up for shifts.
  • Returning volunteers are welcome to log in to The Matrix to update their contact information and sign up for shifts.
  • Note that both new and returning volunteers will be required to sign a 2018 Safety Waiver.

Habitat ReStore

   shop - donate - volunteer
Did you know that our two ReStores play an important role in ensuring that Habitat for Humanity is able to build homes?

The Habitat ReStore is the social enterprise that funds Habitat's operations, allowing us to direct all monetary donations towards our home building projects!

Volunteers truly are the heart of our ReStores and we need more of them.  The ReStores in Campbell River and Courtenay both need volunteers to assist in their receiving areas, to help sort, clean, organize and price donations. They also need cashiers, electronics 'fixers' and metal recyclers. Learn more.
In addition to our main Habitat Facebook page, we also have a Facebook page for each of our ReStores! Follow them to get first peek at some of the amazing treasures we get in.
