Bureau of Highways

Under the Howard County Department of Public Works is the Bureau of Highways. The Bureau of Highways is responsible for issues concerning sidewalks, pavement, storms drains, and safety of the public.

As the County prepares for the possibility of more inclement weather, the Bureau of Highways is in charge of snow removal on all county roads. You can track the progress of the County's snow removal via the Snow Plow Tracker. In the event of snow and/or ice, the Bureau asks drivers to not park on streets, as that makes snow removal extremely difficult for highway crews. Howard County does not maintain any sidewalks with the exception of the sidewalks adjacent to County buildings. The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is responsible for the work and maintenance on all state roads, such as MD 32.

The Bureau also asks for community input when it comes to highway or traffic control concerns. TellHoco is a service that allows Howard County residents to reports problems. However, if the condition is urgent, residents are encouraged to call the Bureau of Highways at (410) 313-7450.

To learn more about the Bureau of Highways, please visit their website .

Congratulations to the Glenelg High School's Varsity Football Coach, Butch Schaffer, for being named the 2018 Ravens High School Coach of the Year. This season, Coach Schaffer led the Glenelg football team to a 13-1 record, the most single-season victories in the program's history. Glenelg also made their first-ever appearance in the 2A Class state championship game. In addition to a great coach, the team was also led by Howard County's Defensive Player of the Year, Sam Alsheimer, and Howard County's Offensive Player of the Year, Wande Owens.
