Please join us for our monthly Shabbat morning program for families with young children, Kinderlach (ages Birth-4) and Gesher (ages 5 +), to learn about preparing our hearts and homes for Passover. Together we will explore the rituals and meaning of Passover through songs, games, and crafts. Gesher will also learn about the Jewish value related to the holiday of Pidyon Sh'vuim (redemption of the captives) by focusing on the feeling of freedom. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, March 10, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. with an informal vegetarian potluck to follow (with JCOGS providing bagels and cream cheese).

The Greater Stowe Interfaith Coalition presents the third movie in the MLK Jr. Social Justice film series this coming Sunday, March 11 at 1:30 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church in Stowe . "After Spring" is a portrait of the dire situation the Syrian refugees are in as well as a tribute to their resilience. The Hollywood Reporter said, "it puts a needed human face on the critical refugee crisis. Viewers will experience what it is like to live in Zaatari, the largest camp for Syrian refugees. Everyone there must decide if they can rebuild their lives in a place that was never meant to be permanent.
The documentary won several awards. It is free and open to the public. There will be a brief discussion after the film. The film lasts about 1 hr & 40 min.

Hope to see you then!
JCOGS' Fourth-Annual UVM Hillel Food Justice Shabbaton, led by guest rabbinical student Yael Werber
Friday, March 16, 6 p.m. Shabbat services & veg potluck
Saturday, March 17, 10 a.m. service, Torah study followed by veg potluck
Students from UVM Hillel will embark on a week-long service trip themed around Food Justice in Vermont. Join these students at JCOGS for Food Justice-themed Shabbat services Friday night and Saturday morning and plenty of good food!

Change in Saturday location: Both events will be held at JCOGS.

Special this year: Guest clergy Yael Werber, with her rich experience in sustainable farming and food practices, will lead this spectacular Shabbaton. Yael is excited to be at Hebrew College in the first year of the Rabbinical program. Prior to moving to the Boston area, she spent three and a half years living in Vermont and loving it! Over the past few years, she has done organic, sustainable farming as an Adamah program fellow, written a children's book ("Spring for Sophie," published February 2017), and worked in Vermont restaurants and farmers' markets (for Elmore Roots Nursery). She also loves a good adventure and spent last summer living in a tent in Hawaii. She's hoping Rabbinical school will be at least as good of an adventure, if not more. Her dedication to food justice is one reason why she is looking forward to joining JCOGS and UVM Hillel students for this Shabbaton of learning and prayer.
''Heritage: Civilization and the Jews''
Sunday, March 18 and Monday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
JCOGS' Arts and Education Committee presents the award winning documentary: “Heritage: Civilization and the Jews.”

Winner of the coveted Peabody Award, “Heritage: Civilization and the Jews” is the monumental series spanning three millennia of Jewish history. The series is hosted by former Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Abba Eban, who describes it as "a celebration of our common humanistic and moral heritage, explored through the mysteries of preservation, renewal and resonance of the Jewish people." A renowned author and scholar, Eban explores fascinating and captivating Jewish culture and civilization. The series chronicles the emergence of a Jewish identity based on ideas, not territory, and the intellectual interaction between the Jewish world and classical Greece and Rome. “Heritage: Civilization and the Jews” brings to life the long and complex history of the Jews and their interaction with the rest of Western civilization.

This multi-day event is free, accessible, and open to the public.
Refreshments will be served.
