Parenting Workshop on 12/21/17

The next meeting of the Parenting Group will be on Thursday, December 21, 2017, 9:45 to 11:45 AM at my office (5020 Campus Drive, Newport Beach, CA, 92660).

Our first meeting (on December 7th) addressed the modes of relational engagement in the parent-child relationship.  As the process of separation/individuation unfolds, the child requires different types of engagement from the parent in order to promote psychological and emotional autonomy.  We discussed the 4 modes of relational engagement the parent needs to utilize and the goals for each mode.

The upcoming meeting on December 21st will focus on the specific parenting attitudes and behaviors required for each of the 4 modes of relational engagement. The ideas and themes presented will be illustrated with actual family situations as presented by parents who were in attendance at the first Parenting Group meeting.
