There are just a few more days until Winter Break - starting Friday (12/22) and running through Tuesday (1/2). School will resume on Wednesday, January 3rd. With some new snow, there are plenty of opportunities in our community to get out and enjoy the winter weather - relax and recharge over the holidays. It's hard to believe that 2017 is coming to an end, but we hope for great things in 2018 for our students, parents, staff, and community!

DARE Graduation at Lakeside and Taylors Falls

DARE essay winners from Lakeside and Taylors Falls Elementary.

Last week 5th grade students at Lakeside and Taylors Falls (Class of 2025) graduated from the DARE program. At Lakeside, essay winners Laura Carlson, Annika Swenson, Liam Behling, Sophia Anderson, Danica Cossor, Tara Fickbohm, and Caitlin Boldt read their winning essays before introducing their classmates as they received their certificates. At Taylors Falls, essay winners Carston Schaefer, Laney Gibbs, and Alexis Robinson read their winning essays and introduced their classmates to the crowd of parents and friends.

Both programs included a presentation from the Community Partnership Improvisational Theater. Lindstrom City Council Member Kevin Stenson talked to students and parents about the importance of the DARE program in helping our kids make good choices regarding drugs and alcohol. Chisago Lakes is the only school district in Chisago County that offers the DARE program and it shows when looking at statistics about drug and alcohol use in our community compared to surrounding communities.

Donated Smart Phones for Google Expeditions

Students at Chisago Lakes schools have been going on some interesting trips lately thanks to Google Expeditions and some borrowed equipment from ECMECC. With the success of the program, CL would like to build a class set for our students to use. The greatest expense in putting together the needed equipment is the device. What we need is to collect some of those unused smart phones you might have - particularly after the holidays if Santa had you on the nice list and upgraded your current device.
We're looking for your iPhone (5 or newer) or Android smartphone - unlocked and wiped of any personal information. All iCloud backup usernames and passwords, along with passcodes to open the phone need to be removed to be donated. If you have questions on how to do this, please contact Mike Klun at 651-213-2015 or by email. You can drop phones off at the district office or any of the school buildings.

Compassion Collection a HUGE Success!
