Principal's Message

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of teaching a 5th grade class. Throughout the day, I felt such a sense of excitement for the enthusiasm that each student showed for learning. Families, friends, teachers, and staff have helped shape these students into wonderful leaders and scholars. Each person that has contributed to the growth of these wonderful humans should feel a great sense of pride for who they have become.

Upcoming meetings/events:
- I will be hosting a meeting to discuss school safety on March 14, 2018 @ 3:30pm.
- Join us at our School Spirit Assembly on March 26th at 9:25am.

Odyssey of the Mind Participants

Thirteen LP 4th graders in two teams participated in the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition on March 3rd, at Concord High School! Both teams: The S.S. Galaxy (Lucy M., Paige B., Lily C., Stella M., Caitlin W. and Maya R.) and   Moraga Rotary Team A (Shiraz Z., Mason C., Gia C., Riley C., Dylan C., Giancarlo C. and Riley S.) worked hard over many months and represented LP this past weekend, competing against teams from all across the region.   Each team picked a long-term problem which they worked on over several months, creating a solution that was presented to a panel of judges; then they also participated in a short-term spontaneous problem they could not plan for ahead of time.Wonderful team work and efforts! We are so proud of you!

Moraga Rotary Team A  placed 2nd place, out of seven teams, and is now headed to the State level competition on  March 24th at UC Riverside. They are very excited and proud of their big accomplishment. Good luck at State!

This popular event encourages reading at all age levels and serves as a fundraiser for our school. Duties include working with PTA to determine dates, preparing all collateral/publicity for event (previous event documents are available), handling tallies of participation and fund collection from participating students. If you are interested in serving as Readathon Chair for this spring, please contact us at  [email protected] .  Dates are flexible and responsibility spans approximately three weeks. Without your help, we won't be able to put this event on for this year.  Your help is much appreciated! Thank you!

Attention Science Fair Participants!

Thank you to all participants who picked up their Science Fair Boards last week. There are still a few left in the office, so if you did not get your board yet, please bring your SCIENCE FAIR NUMBER (on your approved application--upper right hand corner of the yellow piece of paper) and pick up your board this week. Hopefully you are having fun conducting your experiments and getting your posters prepared for the Science Fair! The event will happen on Wednesday, March 21st from 6:30- 7:30 pm  in the Oak Room. All families are encouraged to come and check out the exhibits and ask questions of our scientists. Volunteers: If you are interested in helping out with the Science Fair by serving as a mentor who is assigned a few exhibits to visit and ask questions on the night of the event, please contact Davina Roche or Janelle Chng.

Table Talk Question:

Ask your student what they feel the pros and cons are of modern technology.

From the Library

This week we are reading two very different books in the library. The first book is this year's Caldecott Medal winner, Wolf in the Snow by Matthew Cordell. It is a wordless picture book.  We will talk about the different words that come to mind as we read this beautifully illustrated book. Then we will also read Peter H. Reynolds new book, The Word Collector. This book is full of words and will encourage discussions of students favorite words and favorite things to collect. Peter H. Reynolds is the author of The Dot which we read every September 15ish!

Experience laughter and chills as you meet the kooky and charmingly creepy characters of The Addams Family - A New Musical Comedy at Campolindo High School. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met.  But that's about to change on the fateful and hilarious night when the two families meet at the Addams Family mansion. Sit back and savor the morbid hospitality of Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Grandma, Lurch and the beloved weirdo, Uncle Fester, as the memorable occasion brings out family secrets and the best -- and worst -- in everyone involved!
The show will run from March 16-25 at Campolindo High School, 300 Moraga Road, Moraga.  Tickets are $25.
