Florida Atlantic University ’s  College of Engineering and Computer Science , in collaboration with researchers from FAU’s  Schmidt College of Medicine   and FAU’s   Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute , one of the university's four research pillars, has received a $652,820 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to establish the first NSF-funded Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning (AIDL) Training and Research Laboratory in Florida. 
The platform will be shared across FAU’s campuses.
FAU Neuroscientist Presents Research in Israel 
Alex Keene , Ph.D. an associate professor of biological sciences in FAU’s  Charles E. Schmidt College of Science   and a member of the  Jupiter Life Science Initiative  (JSLI) presented during the 27th Annual Israel Society for Neuroscience meeting. During the event held at the Queen of Sheba, Eilat on Jan. 6 through Jan. 8, Keene presented the collaborative research his lab is conducting on the evolution of behavioral and developmental processes in Mexican cavefish. 
FAU’s Jupiter Life Science Initiative   (JLSI) will host “ SYNAPSE 2019 , an annual neuroscience networking event for students and research scientists in collaboration with Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and Scripps Florida Research Institute. More than 150 of the brightest scientific minds in the region are expected to gather at MPFI to network and share their research findings on Jan. 25, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
