CBC Faculty Receive Galileo Circle Awards

Prof. S. Scott Saavedra has been selected as a 2018 Galileo Circle Fellow, and Research Prof. Minying Cai has been selected as a 2018 Galileo Circle Copernicus Awardee.

ACS Recognizes UA Chemistry Club

The UA Chemistry Club was selected to receive a Commendable Award for its activities conducted during the 2016-17 academic year.

Jessica Forelli Awarded ACS Hach Scholarship for Chemistry Teachers

Established by the Hach Scientific Foundation in 1982 to encourage students to pursue chemistry at the undergraduate level, the Foundation now has narrowed its focus in response to the high need of chemistry educators at the secondary level.

Hiromi Fukuzaki Selected as 2017 Hoyt Scholar

Hiromi Fuzukazi has been awarded the Charles Y. F. Hoyt Undergraduate Scholarship Endowment in Chemistry and Biochemistry for 2017.

November 2017 Student of the Month

Collin Schoch nominated Andrew Thomas for the CBC Outstanding Student of the Month Award, which allows CBC students to recognize their peers for demonstrating actions and behaviors that go above and beyond expectations.

Dana Gilmore (BS in Biochemistry, 2003) I am employed by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, where I recently received the 2017 Southern Regional Crime Laboratory Employee of the Year Award.

Leah Homad (BS in Biohemistry, 2017) I just started a research technician job with Fred Hutchinson in Seattle.

Dominic Kyalo Muli (PhD in Chemistry, 2015) I got hired at Ventana Medical Systems (ROCHE) this past October as a Scientist in companion diagnostics (CDx) development. In this highly cross-functional department, I am participating in assay development that inform doctors to personalize medications for cancer patients. It is such a rewarding experience to me that has just begun, and I look forward to being part of the future of better cancer treatment. I am also quite excited that I am back to Tucson to cheer for the Wildcats after one year postdoc experience at the University of Pittsburgh. BEAR DOWN!

Retirees -- Where are they now?

Christa Sitz, formerly the Business Manager in Biochemistry, is widowed and living quietly in Tucson with her dog, Buddy. She remembers her days in Biochemistry with great fondness and would love to hear from old friends.
