What is your occupation?
I had been a stay at home mom to our three kids for many years. Our daughter is a Junior at Arizona State, we have a son and bonus daughter who are Seniors at Northwest, and a son in seventh grade at Pike. For over a year now, I have been an Independent Contractor delivering packages for Amazon. I recently started delivering groceries with Instacart.
What brought you to Northwest ISD as a volunteer?
We moved to Texas from Arizona in 2007, and after doing research on several local school districts, we decided to build our home in NISD. We love NISD and I have so much respect for the teachers and staff for what they do for our children, that it seemed like the best way for me to give back to them would be to volunteer my time.
How long have you been volunteering with NISD?
I have been a volunteer at NISD since we moved here, so 10 years now! When our three kids were younger I was involved in PTA and was room parent at the elementary school. When they started middle school I started helping with the band and choir. I currently still help with Band, but now it is at Northwest High School.
What is your favorite thing about volunteering with NISD?
The kids! I love the kids, they really do appreciate you being there to help! They might grumble a little that you are cramping their style, but deep down they love it! I also love my fellow volunteers! I have been the volunteer coordinator for the Northwest Band Boosters for three years now and I love these parents! It is not easy to dedicate your whole day to help out at a marching competition, but just when I think I don't have enough hands to help, someone will show up asking if we need them! They rock!
What was your favorite activity/hobby as a child?
As a child I wasn't involved in a whole lot of organized activities. I grew up back in the days where your parents could tell you to go play outside and be home by dinner. My brother and I had a lot of fun hanging out and playing with the neighborhood kids. In high school I was a cheerleader, but not for the football team. We were called Wrestlerettes and we cheered for the wrestlers! We even had cute cheer uniforms. We would sit on the floor and chant cheers to rhythms we clapped and pounded on the floor.
"The success of the Northwest High School band is a reflection of the dedication and enthusiasm of Kelly Trisko's work as our volunteer coordinator," Northwest High School Director of Bands Jim Boulet said. "The Fall season for our band was a resounding success, but we couldn't have done it without her enthusiastic support. Kelly works many hours to organize and communicate with the many parents who help our band program run smoothly while taking the pressure off the students and staff. We would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt "Thank You!" We look forward to working with you again in the future."
