A Note from Mrs. Ryan    12/13/17

Dear Parents,

Our general contractor, GMH Builders is making rapid progress in the restoration of our home campus.  The rubble has all been cleared and the interior of the main building is undergoing a major face lift.   The county has informed us that since Cardinal Newman and St. Rose are on the same parcel they will issue the occupancy permits together.  The new target date for the re-opening of our home campus is January 22nd.

This adversity has resulted in a number of golden opportunities to enhance the learning spaces for your children. Most of these upgrades will be completed by January 22nd and are covered by insurance.

There is also an opportunity to add a new HVAC system which would include the air conditioning units your children have been longing for every time there is a heat wave.  The cost will be approximately $120,000.  This upgrade cannot be covered by insurance.  A long-time benefactor of St. Rose has already stepped forward with a challenge grant for $60,000. I know we can meet the challenge of raising the other $60,000.  Our annual Crab Feed is coming on February 10th. The air conditioning project will featured in the live auction on that night.  Families will also be asked to sell raffle tickets to aid the cause.  And of course, we are happy to accept your donations.  A donation of $300 per family would put us over the top.  More information about this exciting project will be coming soon.

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
School Principal

School Policy for Illness (from school handbook)
It's that time of year! Colds, coughs, sniffles, flu, etc.
All those little germs and bugs are busy jumping around the classrooms.
Here are a few basic guidelines for parents whose child(ren) may be coming down with a bug!

Fever
Fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school
Cough / Cold / Runny Nose
Few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash hands afterwards. A child with thick or constant nasal discharge should remain home until clear to avoid spreading illness to others.
Vomiting/Diarrhea A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat
Notify office. A child is contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Child should remain home for 24 hours of treatment and until feeling better.
Lice
Notify office. Child may return to school after lice treatment
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Notify office. Child may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. No discharge from the eyes.
The 24 hour test
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Fever 100+
  • Itchy or reddened eyes with discharge (see Dr)
  • Unusual rash (see Dr.)
  • A poor night sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
Reminder: Children may not keep medication of any kind with them during the school day.
See 'Medications at School' policy below.
