Shabbat Morning Services at 9:30 AM
Services led by Rabbi Fred and Hazzan/Rabbi Rachel. TEEN TORAH TAKEOVER - Adat Shalom teenagers will lead the Torah Service. They are participants in the first ever TEEN TORAH TAKEOVER, a pilot program whose goal is to disprove the theory that people ages 13 to 30 refuse to participate in synagogue life.  Each of the participants agreed to take on a substantial task-reading Torah or Haftarah, serving as gabbai or hagba, leading part of the service-totally on their own.

Coming Up!
Calling all Iron Chefs!  In keeping with tradition, Co-Presidents Harriet Shugerman and Jon Grossman will once again sponsor the annual Adat Shalom Iron Chef Dinner/Cooking Competition as part of the On-Line Auction on Saturday, March 17, starting at 7:00 pm.

Here's your chance to get a taste of what it's like to be a competitive chef. Ok, so the prize isn't a national tour or your own cooking show, but your tasty creations will be enjoyed by 20+ diners in attendance -- and your praises will be sung on Ma Chadash!

This year, in an effort to improve upon the format, the evening will feature hors d'oeuvres stations, along with plated entrees and desserts. Diners will vote to select the top chef team. In addition, the Co-Presidents will bestow additional awards for creativity. As always, it will be a delectable and fun evening!

The first step is to identify the most imaginative chefs among us. We are looking for up to four, inventive, two-person teams.   To throw your toque in the ring, contact Harriet at 301-229-4088 or at  [email protected] The deadline for chef sign-up is December 22 . Diners can purchase tickets in the Adat Shalom auction, starting in January.

The Foundation for Jewish Studies Presents:
Professor Ari Kelman - How Jewish Students Make Sense of Campus Politics

Probably moreso than any other time in recent memory, college campuses have grown increasingly politicized. From discussions of safe spaces to divestment campaigns of all kinds, students are growing more politically engaged and campus communities are finding new ways of creating productive, if challenging conversations. For Jewish students, the situation is fraught with the ongoing pressures that attend discussions of Israel and Palestine, and by the increasing and very real presence of anti-Semitism. How are Jewish students making sense of these circumstances? Professor Kelman will share his findings from a recently-published report based on over 70 interviews with Jewish students on California campuses, in which they discuss the good, the bad, the unnerving, and the hopeful about their lives.

Saturday, December 23rd - Minyan Pashut at 9:30 AM in the Sanctuary
What's Minyan Pashut? you may ask.
It's just like any other Shabbat morning service at Adat Shalom...but  it's mostly lay-led, so there are lots of opportunities to participate.
There's a bit less talk and a little more "going with the flow" ... plenty of singing ... and an intimate in-depth Torah discussion.

Come check it out!  For more information - or if you'd like to try leading some portion of the service - contact David Sieradzki.

Sunday, December 24th at 6:00 PM
