On Monday, Donna Butts moderated a panel at United Nations' Headquarters in New York City. The discussion was on how intergenerational relationships contribute to the human rights of older and younger people. The panel included Generations United's UN reps: Dr. Susanne Bleiberg Seperson and Kevin Brabazon, who both serve on the UN Sub-Committee on Intergenerational Relationships of the NGO Committee on Ageing. We welcome our new rep, Ellen Amstutz, who is senior program officer for DOROT's Community Based Programs and External Affairs. Check out these highlights.

Generations United Welcomes Irv Katz!

We're thrilled to announce that Irv Katz, former president and CEO of the National Human Services Assembly, joins us as a senior fellow! His wisdom and experience are invaluable. Much of his career prior to the Assembly was with United Way, including stints as a senior vice president at United Way of America (now United Way Worldwide) and as president of the United Way of Central Indiana (Indianapolis and environs), though his career began at a historic settlement house also in Indianapolis. Tennesseans Tell Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to Support the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act

In May, Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act (S. 1091), which would create a federal task force charged with developing and disseminating information to help grandparents and other relatives raising children. Now cosponsors of the bill are urging passage before the end of the year. Senator Lamar Alexander from Tennessee is chairman of the Senate HELP committee responsible for the legislation. He has the power to make this bill a priority. If you are from Tennessee, call Senator Alexander's office at (202) 224-4944 or email him and urge him to "pass the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act this year."

Nominate a colleague, a friend, even yourself for the 2018 AARP Purpose Prize, which will present $50,000 to five extraordinary individuals -- ages 50 and older -- who are using their life experience to make a better future for all ages. Established in 2005 by Encore.org , the Purpose Prize transitioned to its new home at AARP in 2016. In addition to the cash prizes, one of the five winners will be awarded the Andrus Award for Intergenerational Excellence, named for AARP's founder. Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities

Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grant Program. The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and its partners will award $2 million in grants nationwide. The Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration grant program seeks to develop community capacity to sustain local natural resources for future generations. Deadline: Jan. 31, 2018. Learn more.

Youth Practitioner Award Nominations. The Youth Learning Institute is accepting nominations of individuals or organizations with outstanding performance in the creation and implementation of youth development programs or services. The winner will be recognized at the U.S. Play Coalition Play Conference at Clemson University (April 8-11, 2018). The winner will have conference fees paid as well as receive hotel accommodations and up to $500 in travel to attend the Play Coalition. Deadline: Dec. 15, 2017. Learn more

2018 AmeriCorps Funding. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has funding available for programs that engage participants 55 or older in service that makes a significant impact in their communities. Deadline: Jan. 17, 2018. Learn more

Healthy Schools Grant. America's Promise Healthy School Fund will award three to five two-year grants of up to $300,000 to organizations working toward creating healthier school environments for all children. Deadline: Jan. 22, 2018. Learn more.
