According to Network for Good's 2015 Digital Giving Index, the average gift giving size on December 31 was $223. That was more than Giving Tuesday with $142, times of disasters with $119 and any other time during the rest of the year with $110!

It could be that December 31 is the last day for the holidays and that it's the last push to do something good and philanthropic for the year.
