December 31 is a day everyone around the world knows about. We all know it as New Years' Eve. But did you know that December 31 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. is the most popular date and time to donate money to the charities closest to your heart?

According to Network for Good's 2015 Digital Giving Index, the average gift giving size on December 31 was $223. That was more than Giving Tuesday with $142, times of disasters with $119 and any other time during the rest of the year with $110!

But I bet you're wondering, why is December 31 so popular for online giving? It could be that December 31 is the last day for the holidays and that it's the last push to do something good and philanthropic for the year. But others believe it's for tax purposes because in order to have a charity-related tax deduction, it must be made in that tax year.

So whether you donate for the good feelings or for tax purposes, keep United Way of North Central Florida in mind on December 31. Your money goes further for the 34 programs you love and support.
