Holiday greetings to all!
A sincere "thank you" for all the work you do for our military families and children every day. As MIC3 celebrates eleven years, we have witnessed major milestones in the organization. In 2014, with 50 states and DC adopting the Compact, we knew our work was just beginning as we strived to ensure
“Successful Educational Transitions”
for military students in every State.
As we close out 2017 I wanted to thank everyone who attended the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) in late October. The survey was overwhelmingly positive and it is encouraging to hear that we are going in the right direction. It is through this feedback and the work of our committees that we continue to enhance and evolve the meeting content which is vital as we start the planning for 2018. The Executive Committee (EXCOM) will review suggestions on areas where we can improve and discuss solutions.
At the ABM, the Commission amended the ByLaws to split the
Public Relations and Training
committee into two separate committees: 1)
Training,
and 2)
Communications and Outreach
. The Commission also elected the following officers for 2017-18:
- Chair - Rosemarie Kraeger (RI)
- Vice Chair - Pete LuPiba (OH)
- Treasurer (also Chair of the Finance Committee) - Bob Buehn (FL)
In accordance with our ByLaws, Chair Kraeger appointed standing committee chairs for a one year term:
- Rules - Mary Gable (MA)
- Training - Don Kaminar (AR)
- Compliance - Daron Korte (MN)
- Communication and Outreach - Shelley Joan Weiss (WI)
At the recent board retreat in Newport, Rhode Island, the EXCOM spent two days "taking stock" of our vision, mission and core values. We looked at the work and effectiveness of the Board, and explored new ways to be more responsive and transparent to the Commission.
The Board came out of the retreat with renewed vigor and optimism, and the combined commitment that we will continue to "do the right thing for military children".
