Did you know?
There is a "Grate Debate"
occurring
right now in Georgia with our spring-like weather!
Spring is all about getting outside, dusting off the grill, and having a good 'ol fashioned cookout.
The debate between charcoal and propane,
or even electric is a tough one:
Which one produces more flavor?
Which is cheaper, faster?
And most importantly, which is more eco-friendly?
According to a recent study, "The overwhelming factors are, that as a fuel,
propane gas
is dramatically more efficient than charcoal OR electric in its production and considerably more efficient in cooking."
This study reported the carbon output of these grills when producing 35,000 Btu's (British Thermal Units) per hour, - a typical industry baseline -
showed
propane gas produced 5.6 lbs.
of CO2/hr.,
compared to
11 lbs. for charcoal
,
and a whopping 15 lbs. for electrical grills.
Bottom line: Go for gas!

The Future of Grilling
Hybrid Grills
Pellet Grills
Pellet and hybrid grills are beginning to emerge to optimize electricity but accommodate small amounts of wood or charcoal to add extra flavor. These grills are h
ard to find yet are the next best thing in eco-friendly backyard BBQs.
*When purchasing a propane tank, make sure there is a trade-in option. Most retailers will let you bring in an empty tank in exchange for a decent discount on your next tank.
