The Men's Group - Invisible Distress and Grief * 10:15 to 11:30 AM
In our last meeting, a group of men came together to learn about the grief and mourning process and how men generally grieve in different ways as compared to women.  Some men shared their moving personal experiences of loss. A theme that emerged was the invisible nature of men's emotional distress and trauma. Due to cultural norms and expectations, men are conditioned to suffer silently and go on in life undeterred, concerned more about those whom they support rather than their own problems. In our next meeting, we will explore the invisible nature of how men process not only grief and loss, but day-to-day stress and disappointments that tend to accumulate over time. 

The Relationship Group - The Dynamics of Shame and Guilt * 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM
Shame and guilt are important emotional experiences that are often viewed synonymously.  Yet they are actually distinct emotions that play out very differently in romantic relationships.  In our next meeting, I will present an overview of the psychological components distinguishing shame vs. guilt and illustrate their unique roles in the dynamics of couples.
The Dynamic Psychotherapy Process Group 1:15 to 2:30 PM
This therapy group utilizes the emerging dynamics among group members, and between the group members and facilitator, as a basis from which to examine one's characteristic ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others. A second process group is starting and interested persons may contact me directly at 949-338-4388 or jt@jamestobinphd.com for more information.  
* If you would like to attend the Men's Group and/or the Relationship Group on February 3, 2018, please RSVP to me at 949-338-4388 or  jt@jamestobinphd.com . There is a limit of 14 attendees for each group and registrants will be accommodated on a first-come/first-serve basis. The fee is $25.00.

Please note that the Men's Group and the Relationship Group are psychoeducational in nature, not therapeutic, and do not constitute psychotherapy or counseling. In contrast, the Dynamic Psychotherapy Process Group is a therapeutic experience and entry occurs only after a pre-group screening interview.
